Feel sorry to say this about an Islamic center/masjid but likely was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at one. I’m a regular masjid goer and frequent many masajid wherever I go. I came here for the first time as I’ve moved from out of state. I’ve been trying different masajid to pray taraweeh and I can say I likely will not be coming back here. For medical purposes I have to sit on a chair. As soon as came here and sat down in the musalla with a chair, a sister from across the room yelled “Sister, chairs aren’t allowed in the musalla!! Please take it out in the hallway! And where is your mask?!!” I immediately stood up to take my chair outside as I am someone who follows rules but of course was not aware of any such rule. The mask mandate in Virginia and much of the country has been lifted so I was not aware it was mandatory here. As I was leaving, the woman wearing an Adams badge continued to follow me and talk loudly with me for all to hear. “Did you not see the sign on the door while walking in?!” At this point, I responded back letting her know I didn’t appreciate being yelled at, and that I was not aware of such rules. I would have just as easily cooperated had I not been yelled at and still was but it’s never acceptable to yell at anyone especially in a masjid in the holy month of Ramadan. I will say that I have not yet had any negative experiences in masajid in this area. However, this experience left an especially bad taste in my mouth. I hope that the management here reminds volunteers to take more care when advising others.
