The food was good. The service was prompt and friendly. The schnitzel was cooked a golden brown without any noticable grease left on our plates. The bacon in the pan fried potatoes was lean and added just the right touch to the potatoes. If you like schnitzel, give this place a try.

I've eaten here twice. I had the honey pecan gluten free chicken schnitzel, not sure if that's the name but it was really great. I tried both the slaw and potato salad, both have a little too much vinegar for my preference but are really good. I also had some kind of sausages that were great as well. The staff ate kind and the deserts are good too. There's a gluten free chocolate torte available. So great!

I went here while on a trip to North Alabama and was looking for a unique place to eat. I am not German but have eaten in German restaurants before so your taste may vary. My experience here was mostly positive. We were given menus and one was a lunch menu and mine was the dinner menu. Since I had not been here before I was unaware and had chosen a meal from the dinner menu. The waiter told me that item was from the dinner menu. That is all that he said and i had to ask if the menu should be taken away and replaced with the proper one. I was told no. It was a really weird interaction about a simple thing. I chose something different and after a few minutes the waiter came back to say if I still wanted my first choice from the dinner menu he would make it happen. I thanked him for doing his best to correct the confusion. After a little while the food came. It looked really good and was a nice portion. I ordered the Assortment Platter from the dinner menu. This consisted of a mini Weiner schnitzel, mini chicken cordon Bleu and a Rauchwurst sausage with a choice of salad and side. It was a lot of really good food. My wife ordered Bratwurst Jarlsberg sausage platter with a choice of sides. The decor and staff uniforms appear to be dated and could use a refresh. Overall the food was great and the waiter was fine after the menu incident. I would definitely go back for the food and would hope to save some room for dessert the next time.

Another difficult review. This is the second time in six years that I've eaten at Ol' Heidelberg. The first time the Hunter gravy tasted like it came out of a can. This time I went because i had family visiting and she wanted to go. Let's say it did not start off any better. The good: The Schnitzel Cordon Bleu (Veal) and the Jeagerschnitzel (Pork) were well prepared, and the hunter gravy actually had a good flavor. The fried potatoes were also very well prepared. The bad: I initially had the Spatzle with my meal and it came out dry, overcooked, and greasy. So, why four stars? It could have been better. We also had an issue with our server, but the manager quickly remedied it and the replacement server (Dawn) was absolutely wonderful.

Hi - I believe you would be better off calling the cafe. They do sell desserts but I believe it requires a 48 hour notice. But again give them a call to arrange this.

Do they make the desserts in house?

The restaurant feels a little small when you walk in, but they have a surprising amount of space well used. Even without reservations, the wait usually isn't long.

From what I recall, most menu items come with a choice of garden salad or cucumber salad, choice of pan fried potatoes or warm potato salad, and red cabbage. I don't really recall the specific price of the menu items, but I think most things are in the $9 to $13 range.

A little on the higher side I felt. But, the portions are so big that the prices ultimately feel very reasonable
