Private, for residents only, if you don’t know a family in the town they won’t let you in.

amazing little chapel in northern nj. Very lucky to see it in person and photograph it.

I grew up on Kitty Ann Mt. just north looking down on this beautiful Chapel. I never saw it close up only from up on the mountain or sailing around it on the lake. We still have a painting done in the late 1950's with the isle and chapel prominently displayed. We moved when I was nine. I'd like to return and to visit the Chapel and the old tower on the mountain that I used to ride to on my bicycle. So much history and lots of memories.

Questions & Answers

Is this a Catholic Church?

It was a private family chapel. It was a Catholic church from 1890 until 1932, when by the request of the youngest son and owner of the chapel at the time (Morris Kinney) it was deconsecrated. It has been restored to it's original state after suffering vandalism in the early 1950's and is used as a nondenominational church as well as museum of early 19th C. American Decorative arts.
