MHMR really saved my life. When I came to them, I was fin a crucifying game in my mind and in person. It was too much to carry until they prescribed me Chlorpromazine and Abilify. That gave me a chance to fight back. They listened, they prescribed, they supported. Also, they have an insanely efficient process to funneling you to the person who can help. Psychiatry is like a stew but Deepika has managed to quell my mind so I can design my own video games. MHMR just wants you to faith in your treatment, so they can treat you effectively. I did and they did, and here we are now: Paying it forward.

This long overdue as I have been reluctant to openly state my mental health needs. Reading the reviews I knew it was time to share my MHMR experience--they literally saved my life. Two and a half years ago, MHMR came into my life when I was at my lowest point and in the ER. They advocated for me from the very moment they met me. I'm uncertain who called MHMR because the hospital had their own counselor talk to me. I spoke to MHMR first and was complacent towards them, even lying to them about my circumstance. The MHMR ladies who came to the hospital that night stayed with me, talking to the doctors, myself, talking to my family and working out a care plan for me. The hospital counselor was wheeled in by way of an iPad on what seemed to be one of those IV poles, it's not likely that it was. A teleheath meeting was impersonal. Only spending a short time talking with me (maybe 15 - 20 minutes it felt like). Then came the verdict, she decided I would spend time at an inpatient hospital. MHMR felt I required LOC5, though not in-patient. I agreed with them. However, the ER doctor (who was not the original doctor I spoke with), had other plans for me. Telling me I had to go to the hospital volunterraly or be admitted by them involuntarraly and have no less than a two week stay. I went volunterraly. Meanwhile, MMHMR continued to work with my family for a care plan while I was at Seay (hospital in Plano) and they were ready to stand by me when got out. I checked myself out within 24 hours. We called MHMR and they immediately stepped in and started my LOC5. From the ER, the hospital, therapy sessions, counselors and psychiatrist--they worked as a cohesive team to help me. They communicated with one another and I didn't have to repeat my situation, thoughts, etc when seeing the counselor or psychiatrist. MHMR diagnosed me, where others had not, nnorhad ever done a thurough evaluation. With my diagnosis, I received the proper therapy and medication. Two and a half years later, I am now 180° from where I was that night in the ER. I really don't know how they were contacted, but through the grace of God they walked into my life, I am so thankful. Especially the lady who came for MHMR. My counselors and psychiatrist were equally amazing. For the first time, I met complete strangers who genuinely cared about and invested their time in me. This was unfamiliar territory, though it was precisely what I needed. MHMR has a team who are paid a very low wage, yet they are there because of their passion to help people. Some may even be volunteers. MHMR, thank you for all you did and changing my life for better.

Be patient and supportive. Don't confuse being supportive with being manipulated. It's very important to maintain healthy boundaries to ensure a strong recovery process that will be built on a sturdy structure when everyone is on the same page. Communication and willingness to listen and understand an individual position.
