It was so nice to take a moment and spend the week with the Ballard Family. The entire staff makes you feel like your among your favorite friends. We went out three different days and had 3 different Captains. All the captains did a spot on job. However, I would like to Call Sam out by name. Sam made us a part crew and not just passengers. It didn’t matter if we caught a bunch of fish or not. Sam made sure we were still going to have a great time on his boat. If you get a chance to be a part of his crew, just know your with a really awesome Captain

We were so happy when we called to see if breakfast was being served. Every other resort didn't serve breakfast or wasn't open. Eggs were cooked right and portion size was huge! Server/tender was amazing and helpful!

Had Brian for one of our guides. Both were great. Carol is pretty fun at the bar. Great overall service and accommodations. Would probably get 10 stars if they brought back Tachos. Best ice fishing I've ever had.

This is a full service resort. The fishing guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The food in the resort is excellent. And everyone from the owners to the wait staff is fun, friendly, and helpful. My brother brought me here. He comes from Florida several times a year. I know I'll be back.

Hi Larry, while not fishing on Lake of the Woods, there are a few other activities to take in. Zippel Bay state park with walking trails, fishing pier and beach about 8 miles from us, Oak Harbor golf course is 3 miles, the town of Baudette is 12 miles with a couple of shops & local museum, and the town of Warroad is 30 miles with a casino, local brewery. Hopefully that helps!

Are there any resorts in the area for bear hunting?

Bert Bandstra | Jul 7, 2020
Ballard’s Resort (Owner) | Jul 8, 2020

There are no outfitters on the MN side of LOW that offer bear hunting at this time.

Do you offer any bear hunting and what times of the year?

Bert Bandstra | Jul 7, 2020
Ballard’s Resort (Owner) | Jul 8, 2020

We do not offer bear hunting, guided walleye fishing is our specialty May-Oct and ice fishing Dec-March.

1st timer on a 2 and 2 with a couple of high school friends. We are all grown up, but would like full run down on what to bring. Will we catch walleye and sauger? What weight

Moose Stern | Jul 7, 2020

Great question, Here at Ballard's we target walleyes and sauger both in the winter and summer months. If you are ice fishing with us, we provide the transportation to and from the ice house from our cabins on land. The transportation is fully heated along with the ice houses, so no need for huge snow suits! We drill the holes and have jig sticks for you to use out on the ice but if you have any of your own equipment (rod/reel combos, Flasher, Etc) we recommend bringing it along! We do have Vexilars for rent in our office. In the summer on our charter boats the guides have top of the line equipment for you to use so unless you have a rod you never leave behind we have it covered! So rain gear, sunglasses, sunscreen, and beverages are all you theoretically need to bring along! Both seasons we supply all the bait, and clean and process your fish at the end of the day.
