Very cruel treatment to the turkeys before they get processed. Horrifying stories of turkey abuse happen there by their employees.

My wife and I have ordered Plainville Farms turkeys for Thanksgiving since the 1970's It had become a staple of our dinner for our 4 children and now their families and our grandchildren. We also enjoyed their Cicero restaurant and our children looked forward to eating there on occasion. We usually get a 22 pound plus turkey but opted for a 19 pound one this year. Despite change in ownership and venues over the years we always felt the quality was worth to extra cost as the Thanksgiving dinner is very special to our family. We've noticed what we felt was a drop in quality for the past couple for the past couple of years but still remained loyal to our tradition. However this year's experience has lead us to a farewell to Plainville for Thanksgiving. When we got home with our turkey on Tuesday , we noticed that it was partially frozen although we have always asked for and paid for a fresh turkey. I called the meat department where we picked up the turkey and they said it sometimes happens during shipping. I've never heard of that and it's also never happened to us. My wife put the turkey on paper towels in the refrigerator as we always do and it the morning found them soaked with pink blood as the wrapping was apparently ripped. When we opened the package to prep the turkey for dinner , we noticed certain dark areas over the surface that we were not used to. My wife uses the neck as part of her post- Thanksgiving soup project but felt the neck was small enough to be from a large chicken. The turkey was good but not the "great" we have come to expect. For these reasons , we'll be seeking other options for Thanksgiving next year.
