So perhaps I should caveat that my last meal would be a braised or sous-vide short rib. I love short ribs. As Jacques Pèpin calls it: unctuous. This is easily one of the best meals I’ve had—I don’t know in a very long time. That said, I’m not sure why an Indian restaurant has you know, beef on the menu so don’t ask me. Then the daily special chaat came. No idea what was in it beyond chickpeas I asked and she rattled off a bunch of things but all I got was chickpeas. Then OMG the short rib. The menu says: Slow cooked beef short ribs, caramelized onions, and red wine reduction, Garam Masala. It was 1. Huge [tbf it was $37 but I certainly could have shared it] 2. Stupid tender, and had a lot of unction and 3 just the sauce was amazing, it tasted like it was mostly caramelized onions in a tomato sauce but really that and a bowl of rice would have done it. For dessert, gulab jamun. This was a good one. Strangely it was served warm on a cold [like chilled] plate, though that worked and while it stayed warm the sauce around the edges started cooling off. I kind of liked the contrast. Anyway I broke my rule again about trying something I’m familiar with at a new place. Though I guess I’m familiar with gulab jamun? Whatever. I will be back dragging people.

I casually eat Indian food, hands down this is the best one. I ordered biryanis goat curry, crab masala, shrimp MelJol, and goat curry. Each of the plates was spectacular.

Just finished up an amazing lunch at Azafran, and it was a positively awesome experience The restaurant is nicely appointed and has a warm welcoming feel to it. Service is exceptional and they are very courteous. The restaurant also houses a nice bar, although nobody was drinking at lunchtime (if you discount the three patrons splitting a bottle of wine at their table!) I had the Tofu Portobello Kadhai and they switched the tofu for paneer. The dish was beyond tasty and I can safely say I’ve never had a paneer dish of its caliber. I had the good fortune of meeting Proprietor and General Manager Rishu Mehta who took pains to walk me through the menu, and is a very charming person you ought to meet if you go there Some of the popular dishes are Kofta Anarkali, chicken Hariyali Lassatdar and Lamb pepper fry to name a few. I don’t eat meat, but am sure they all will be nothing short of excellent I rarely make the trek to Broomfield during my Denver visits, but now I have a bonafide reason to. The fine folks at Azafran are pushing the boundaries of Indian cooking, and we must support them!

I’ve tried a lot of Indian Restaurants in my life but this one surpasses them 2x. Best Indian restaurant in Colorado!
