I had a painting by a French artist which I wanted to appraise. I saw the few good reviews and decided to give them a shot. The payment process of only accepting checks in this day and age was a bit weird, but I decided to go with it. They were supposed to get back to me within 10 days, after a couple of weeks, I sent it a couple of emails checking on the status and no one replied. Their nonresponsiveness got me concerned. A week later, I got a call from the appraiser. He told me my painting was worth 5, 6, 7 or 8K! I said which is it? He said, " maybe 7 or 8!" But he was very noncommittal. Then he made a vague reference to the mishandling of the artist by his agents in France, which he didn't even explain. It made me think that it was designed to give the appraiser a veneer of credibility. I asked whether they would certify the appraisal, that's when things got really weird. At first he said if it is for insurance purposes, I would not need it, because it is covered under most policies. I insisted on getting the appraisal certified. He said he would have his assistant send me an email. After a few days I connected with the assistant who told me she was told that I didn't need any certification. I voiced my concern that a phone conversation seemed odd for an appraisal and that their insistence that this can't even be put in an email seemed strange. That's when the line went dead. I never heard back from them again. Maybe they are legitimate but they did everything to make be believe it is a scam. So buyer beware.

We found Mr. Radfar and his associates to be extremely professional and knowledgable when we selected them to help us appraise items from my father’s estate–both for family insurance information and for marketing on consignment. For every piece, we received detailed background information and current value appraisals. Their wide range of expertise and experience was most impressive. I would recommend them highly.
