Love the downtown library and the one at the mall. They have DVDs in English and Spanish. There were people upstairs at the downtown branch working jigsaw puzzles. Might be a good way for me to get my puzzle fun in without worrying about my cat hiding the pieces.

Quiet, Clean, librarians were...curtious, friendly, helpful. An enormous variety of reading literature... actual books, videos, etc. Facility was not crowded. I'd definitely recommend this particular library to family, friends, or the general public in need of a quiet, friendly, safe place to conduct research or just lounge around reading a favorite novel.

I like the staff. I like the library. I like its location. I like the book selection. However, digital audible books (mp3) is what I am after to listen to while I drive or relax. The library's selection is limited. What they do have is a great selection of CD audible books and unfortunately I don't have a CD player! The library can consider making an agreement with audible.com to access Audible's large selection for Abilene library patrons. What do you think Ms. Amanda about this idea?

For anyone interested in donating to the library, we accept donations year round at the Main Library Branch located at 202 Cedar St. The ideal time to donate is Monday through Friday between 9AM to 4PM. If you arrive in our alley way, where the outside book drops are located, there will be a set of double doors leading into the library. Simply ring the bell that's to the left of the door and staff will come out to help assist anyone with bringing in donations. The only time we stop accepting donations is a week or two prior to the Friends of the Abilene Public Library book sale. We do make announcements regarding that when it happens, but other than that, we'll receive donations whenever people would like to donate them.
Yes, there will be someone to assist in unloading donations as long as they're donated between the hours of 9AM to 4PM, Mondays through Fridays. This is at a time when staff who work on the second floor are able to hear the door bell and come down to assist those making donations. The only time we do not accept donations is a week or two at the beginning of June as we prepare for the annual Friends of the Abilene Public Library Book Sale, which we do post on our door when that happens. Other than that, donations are accepted year round.
The Main Library now offers a study room as well. You can book them ahead of time, more than 24 hours in advance, and they check out for a 2-hour period. The study room is located in the basement of the library and has a table that seats four, and access to a TV in case you need to plug in a device to use for presentation purposes in your small group. Please note, study rooms at the South Branch may only be reserved 24 hours in advance, but they may be reserved beyond that at the Main Library.
They have a set of books with detailed information on a distinct kiosk in the basement.
Yes all branches offer that services.
Bring your books or recorded material to the main library. Use the alley entrance, ring the doorbell at the double doors. They accept donations M-F 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Photo ID. And proof of physical address. If you. Live in Abilene it's free or $10 If you don't. If you have a military ID it works for proof of address as well.
The AARP hosts their annual program at the Abilene Public Library usually beginning in February and stopping at the end of tax season. Once we get close to the start of the new tax season, we do list a full schedule and information about the program on our website for easy access.
We do hire staff to shelve materials. These positions are called Library Pages and if there are available positions, they are listed on the City of Abilene's website for people to apply to.
