It truly breaks my heart that I have to write this review but Im hoping this maybe could help the students at the Institute in Covington, LA. As an Aveda Alumni seeing the way this school has completely changed and not for the good was extremely disappointing! My oldest daughter wanted to get her hair done at the Aveda Institute where her Mom (ME) went bc she’s interested in going herself. She was so excited this morning when we got there. We sat there for a good 20 min waiting (which I was trying to be patient bc I was once a student and know how it can be)… we were there for 5 hours for a hi-lite (again tried to be patient) but when my daughter comes out AFTER an instructor supposedly inspected the students work and she walks up to me with PURPLE toner all around her hairline, blotches of purple toner under her ear and all over the side and back of her shirt, I was in SHOCK! On top of that the hair didn’t even lift on the top part of her head and the toner was left in too long so the sides of her hair were purple! I don’t blame the student (she is still learning) I BLAME the instructors who are supposed to be teaching these students! My instructors would’ve NEVER ALLOWED me to let my client walk out of the salon in that condition. Help these students get the education they deserve and are paying for. I was definitely let down by the way things were handled and I PRAY someone sees this review and steps up to the plate and get this school back up and running the way these students deserve!

About a week ago I called and booked pedicures for my mom and I as a girls day. We've come to this location multiple times in the past and it has always been an amazing and relaxing experience. The appointment was for 2pm; my mom got taken back at 2 on the dot while I waited until 2:10/2:15 for the student. The water in the foot bath was ice cold and there was only 4 neutral colors to pick from-not the usual small colorful bottles they used to have up front in the store part. Also, there was no leg exfoliation/lotion and foot mask like they have done in the past/the website says AND we didn't get to keep the nail polish like we had previously. Three hours later, we are getting ready to go out and my mom's polish has totally smudged or come off on all her toes after her shower like it never dried. I touch mine and mine was gummy and almost moldable. My mom calls to tell the school we weren't happy with the service and the woman that answers the phone told us they don't do pedicures anymore so she was confused how we were allowed to book one. The woman said it was a "guaranteed service" so they could make up for it but when my mom asked how they were gonna do that if they don't offer the service anymore, the woman didn't have an answer. My mom asked if we could get a credit/gift card and was told yes, but only at that location-not the schools in Hammond or New Orleans which offer way more services. She asked for a refund and was told by the woman that they don't do refunds and if we didn't want to pay to put a hold on our credit card (putting the work on the customer). I feel like our call was not taken seriously and we were just brushed off.

I was scheduled for multiple services when the student I had an appointment with was suddenly and unceremoniously asked to leave for the day - just when she was about to start on my hair. Aveda offered no explanation, no additional appointment - they didn't speak to me at all. I walked back to the front desk and the staff was quite rude when they said I didn't owe anything so I could leave. Turns out they are also fabricating the reason they asked the student to leave for the day. I will never return and will also caution anyone else from going there. The side door of the student salon area is also open to the parking lot, where I witnessed students and instructors "blowing off steam", yelling and cursing about various things. So unprofessional. The exact opposite of a desirable salon experience.
