What should I do after an auto accident?

Generally, you should place a call to your insurance agent before bringing your vehicle to a repair shop. Your insurance advisor may need to assess the damage before making a claim and may need you to bring the vehicle into a Drive-In claims service for an estimate. An estimate is needed in all insurance claims. Once the estimate is drawn up you are free to get the damages and repairs taken care of.

What does it mean when a car is defined as a total loss?

Vogel's Collision | Oct 25, 2020

This means that the insurance company has determined the value of the vehicle, or the sum of the cost of repairs and salvageable condition of the vehicle, is greater than the actual cash value of the vehicle prior to the accident. In this case the insurance company may issue you a check for the amount the car was worth prior to the accident and not move forward on repairs.

What is the difference between the repair order and the estimate?

Vogel's Collision | Oct 25, 2020
Vogel's Collision | Oct 25, 2020

The estimate is the initial, rough approximation of the damages to the vehicle. The insurance company issues the estimate but it is up to the repair facility to discuss the repairs and provide the estimate to the owner for authorization and approval. The repair order is a list of the actual repairs done to the vehicle, indicating parts, their origin, hours of labor, and other relevant items to fixing the vehicle. It can only be finalized upon completion of repairs.

Do you work with my insurance company and do I have to use the insurance company’s recommended repair shop?

Vogel's Collision | Oct 25, 2020

No, your auto policy allows you to go to the collision repair center of your choice and typically at no extra cost, so long as the center meets the standards required by your insurance company.

Will you dynamat/sound-deaden a car?
