Although I am not eligible for the services here at fair housing, Rochelle Woods replied to me in a timely manner and referred me to the right agency for further assistance.

Yes, the lease agreement remains enforceable if a tenant becomes married. Additionally, marital status is a protected class under Michigan law. As a result, it is unlawful for a landlord to seek to end your lease or otherwise discriminate against you after you become married.

He would have to have an extremely good reason, which is not likely, if you have been in compliance. If you live in Detroit, YOU HAVE SOME AWESOME RIGHTS! If you don't, you still have excellent rights. Contact Fair housing, & the United Housing Coalition on 2727 2nd Ave. And don't wait! Immediately./ Shayne

Can you help someone with their water bill

You need to contact the Dept. Of Human Services, & apply for a SER (State Emergency Relief) immediately. Take state or driver lic. picture id, your latest utility bills for DTE, as well as water disconnect; income receipts if working or on unemployment, or SSI /SSD, etc. Take your case # if on foodstamps, or assistance, medical. They will assist you with your water bill, but not Fair Housing, UNLESS it involves a dispute to do with a landlord /lease agreement you are not responsible for initially. See DHS immediately./ Shayne
