After experiencing a vehicle breakdown, I had to seek out an alternative way to get to-and-from work in the Morton Grove area and the Metra train was it! I found the Western Ave Metra Rail Station to be the closest rail station to me on the west-side of Chicago. My initial depart from this rail station felt like an adventure. An adventure that turned into a slight disaster because I got on the wrong Metra train, however, it did not stop me from giving it another try on a different date. My mistake was that I got on the Milwaukee District West (MD-W) when I should have gotten on the Milwaukee District North (MD-N) which both were scheduled to arrive to the rail station nearly minutes apart. The second go around I was on the ball because I had the Ventra application installed on my android phone, plus I was more alert to the announcement. Some advice! Listen and know the final destination of your train instead of just the rail stop you intend on getting off at. For example, the ending stop for my train (MD-N) is Fox Lake. After the Fox Lake train departs the Union Station and upon it arriving to Western Ave Metra Station it will be announced that Fox Lake will be arriving in-bound soon. If you miss the announcement, the conductors will be getting off the train and verbally stating where the train is headed once it arrives. And for the most part, the arrival times are pretty accurate from what I have noticed. Furthermore, there is no one onsite for ticket purchase at Western Ave Metra Station, so you will have to either purchase your ticket on the train or via the Ventra application, and yes, they do take cash on the train, so no worries. In closing, there is a Divvy bike share location at this rail station if you intend on riding to this rail station or if you need a Divvy bike to get to your destination once you depart this rail station. Anyway, take all in consideration and I hope this review assists you in anyway. Thomas G
