The road has many twists, and turns on both sides of the mountain. Lots of loose gravel on the sides. So keep it in low gear, and speed at 5 to 15 mph especially on the downhill slopes, maybe reach a top speed of 10 to 15 mph, and stay out of any loose gravel. At the top there will be a couple of places for a scenic overlook, mostly of the forest. Once you reach Henderson Branch the road is mostly level. Then about 1.5 miles to Holly Flats campground. I have always driven it in 4 wheel gear, but I'm headed out tomorrow in my van, and plan to come in by way of Wildcat Rd, which just as difficult in 2 wheel drive. The trip is well worth taking, and the fishing is always decent. On a really good day the fishing is great! But, no one knows ahead of time when the really good fishing days occur. Best day ever was 7 brown trout over 16". It only happened once. Holly Flats campground is very nice...
No cabins, primitive tent sites only. $6 per night
