As the Week recently detailed, this is Tennessee's way to attack black people and is basically Jim Crow in action.

I have been without power for almost a week and when i got a hold of codes they said they’ve never received any emergancy request for my property and blned my electrician for not doing his job by sending the emergency request out. I get ahold of my electrician and send me everything they sent to codes. This is ridiculous and i feel i’m going to go a longtime without power before anybody comes to inspect my home so the power can actually be turned on.

Codes for property appearance haven’t been updated since the 1950s, apparently, and violations are used by developers as a tool to force out impoverished locals who can’t keep up with the requirements. Metro also needs a science-informed overhaul of codes that takes urban flooding and massive American biodiversity die-off into account. 4” non-native lawn grass growing on clay soil impacted by over-mowing is one of the primary causes of flooding in urban areas - but somehow it’s my backyard wildflower meadow that’s endangering the safety of Nashville’s citizens? Migrating bird and insect groups are now desperate for food sources in urban areas in order to survive their journeys - but who cares about that, we’ll still be alive even if we walk outside to no birdsong and all our pollinated food sources are gone.

I have put in requests, even during the peak of the COVID-19-April 2020, and people like Clint Harper and Cynthia Storie came through very promptly, professionally and help me get my building permit and other trades permits. They have been very friendly with all of my many engagements with them. Thank you all!

You can report this through the Nashville.gov website and file a complaint anonymously.
I don't believe a permit is required. Be careful of your surroundings and of overhead power lines. Clean up the debris and call Public Works to schedule a pickup
It depends on what you want to demo
