Pickerington is also known for "violets" and for many years held the annual Violet Festival. We now hold an annual "Pickerington Palooza" instead, with music, rides and family fun. Our community has an excellent youth football program, which allows our sports programs to be competitive in the Central Ohio area.
Pickerington’s chamber offers a detailed event calendar including where to buy tickets. This site also has great resources for the community such as business development, jobs, and memberships.
Pickerington is located 15 miles southeast of downtown Columbus and is part of Fairfield and Franklin Counties. The highest appreciating neighborhoods since 2000 are Pintails Circle, City Center, Beals, and Winterside Lane. This means that these neighborhoods have seen an increase in the value of an asset over time. Now is the time to buy a home in one of these family-friendly, safe neighborhoods.
Pickerington has loads of great events whether you’re new in town, local, or just cruising through. Situated just outside of Columbus also opens the door to numerous concerts, bar crawls, and festivals. The most popular event that Pickerington hosts is Olde Village Holiday Gathering where there are games for children, carriage rides, tree lighting ceremony, and a decoration contest. This free event has been a family favorite for years.
In 1811, James Looker of Virginia bought land in Violet township at a public sale, including that on which Pickerington now stands. Looker’s son in law, Abraham Pickerington, bought some of his extra land, reserving three lots for a cemetery, educational purposes, and one for a Methodist Church. Eventually, log homes were built and Pickerington established a little town with no name. In 1827, the citizens petitioned the state legislature to change the name in honor of its founder, Abraham Pickering. Once an old country village, the growth and prosperity this city has seen since 1965 has transformed Pickerington into a major city in Fairfield County. This information and more can be found at the City of Pickerington’s website.
According to Area Vibes, Pickerington is graded at an A- for crime and safety. The overall crime rate is 30% lower than the average of crimes committed in Ohio and 30% lower than the national average. Pickerington is a close-knit community that strives for family-friendly, safe, and clean environments.
Omezzo Italian Restaurant is an award-winning restaurant opened by a former computer programmer who found his niche as an Italian chef. Be sure to try the locals’ favorite items on the menu such as the Salad Omezzo, the Pasta Omezzo, and the Trio Omezzo. La Fogata Grill is another popular restaurant known for having the best authentic Mexican food in Central Ohio. For comfort food, we recommend A & J Wingburger, Roosters, and Olde Village Diner.
