Nice outdoor space to enjoy live music and chat with friends. Fruity wines and other sweet beverages. Lots of space for groups. Friendly staff.

We rented a room for a birthday party. Never was given a contract, just word. A couple weeks before event I went out to pay the balance and talk about set up. I was told they get the balance that day because no one except Ray knows what was agreed to. But I was assured we were in the calendar for that day. The day of our party, the staff were surprised by our arrival. The room was dirty! Used wine glasses and empty cans on the dirty tables. One of the staff was trying to mop the floors while we were trying to set up! When we left we were over charged for the room because again, no one except Ray knew the agreement and he was on vacation. The wine is good but this is a shady way of doing business and I would never recommend this place for an event location. UPDATE: I’ve changed my review as the owner did contact my brother and discussed things. We were refunded the total amount of the room rental. We were very thankful for the quick response to our review and that they made things right. We would give them another shot if we ever have another event because they do have very good wine.

My wife Lynn and I like Indian Island Winery, but we could love it if they improved a few things. The service is excellent and the facility is spacious with the outdoor area winning more style points than the lackluster interior. The interior feel is kind of plain. This is not necessarily a negative, unless you are looking for a more romantic, intimate feel. The outdoor area has a ton of seating and a large covered porch area to get out of the sun or rain. There are also fire pits for use in the evening. The wines are solid with a good selection of types and very competitive prices. Many are made from Minnesota hybridized grape varieties. We really enjoyed the Frontenac Gris Late Harvest dessert wine which was sweet and intensely fruity. They truly had an excellent selection, ranging from dry to sweet with reds, whites and a couple of rose options. If you like wine, you will easily be able to find one that suits your palette. Food options are less broad and interesting. I would describe it as basically bar food with pizza being the highlight. I love good bar food and we did enjoy the pizza, but this is a winery where there really should be some more refined options or even just more options at all. How about a meat and cheese tray, or a Mediterranean style pizza or bruschetta?? The point is, compare the Indian Island food menu to a place like Chankaska Creek or Villa Bellezza and you will see that Indian Island has significant room for improvement in this area. This last comment is written with the genuine hope that they will address the issue of the audio system. Lynn and I sat outside under the porch overhang and quickly realized the speakers were set to a volume intended to broadcast audio to the entire outdoor area. Sitting under the overhang about 15 feet from one of the speakers, it was just too loud. I know this is a personal preference thing, but they really should configure the audio situation such that every area has a reasonable level of sound. That, however, is not the worst part of our audio complaint. The main issue was the advertising on their chosen audio service. Ads?? Are you kidding me?? Loud ads too, like the kind that come on and blow your face off with volume louder than the previous song. IMHO there is no good excuse for a winery or restaurant to use an audio service with ads! Pick a service, any service like Spotify, YouTube Music, or Amazon Prime Music and pay for it to remove the ads. Your clients WILL notice the difference! The loud music was forgivable (in fact, we simply moved to a different seat), but the ads are not! I'm not just paying for food and wine, I'm paying for the whole experience, and ads suck. Overall, Indian Island is a nice winery that we will definitely visit again, but we hope they will get better, because there is room for improvement. EDIT: I'm bumping my rating up by one star because we returned to Indian Island winery over Father's Day weekend and had a much improved experience. There was live music outside, which was a huge improvement over the radio stream with ads that I complained about last time. The food selection was also improved with several new items on the menu. I also want to say, I feel like I didn't give them enough credit for having really good wines at exceptionally low prices. Compared to several other wineries Indian Island bottles are easily 20 to 25% less!

Thank everyone for the quick responses! Nope, no reservations are needed =)
Some special events require tickets, but otherwise no, I don't think you need reservations.
They also have a refrigerated case with a great variety of of gluten free food items that pair well with their wines.
Yes it is.
