I live out of state and visited this store while in Camden in September 2022. I was courteously welcomed to the store by employee Rene, who I could immediately tell had good energy and a cheerful disposition. I had questions for her right away, and she gave me confident, correct answers (she totally knows what she’s doing, and she’s great at it, just as she’s great with customer care). I didn’t have adequate time to fully explore the store, and I knew I could only purchase so much since I knew I’d leave SC by plane. But I did manage to at least pass through each section. I found some swell brand-name items at great prices I knew I could easily pack for travel, so that’s a win. Rene was the only cashier, but she kept the line moving without missing a beat despite shoppers’ full buggies, and customers were content, including me. After leaving and getting some 40 miles away, I realized two of my items must’ve had incorrect sticker barcodes (Ollie’s puts its own price tags with scannable codes on its products), as the item descriptions on the receipt didn’t align with what I’d bought, and the prices were higher than the stickers indicated - this wasn’t the employee’s fault at all, as she merely scanned the labels as expected. Living 800 miles away, I knew I couldn’t go back and correct the issue. I contacted online customer support late that night and was surprised to receive a courteous email reply with an offer of assistance from Rachael by early the next morning. Then the very next day, I had a polite voice message and friendly email from Stephen, the district team leader, who took over my request. Within hours, Aaron, a cash analyst at HQ, had identified the problem. They quickly refunded the overpayment and applicable taxes to my payment method. Problems happen sometimes, but what’s really impressive is when a business resolves issues courteously and efficiently, and to me that’s everything. Often better impressions are made when a problem is effectively and respectfully handled than when transactions are run-of-the-mill. I’m thoroughly impressed with Ollie’s customer support and efficiently machinated teamwork and communications. This store and these employees get all the stars and all my gratitude.
