Is it weird to give a cemetery five stars? It's what it is. Beautiful area. History. Nice walk. Loved.

DOG FRIENDLY! We stopped here as we were leaving town so we were only here for about an hour but still very cool to drive through and walk around the cemetery. I strongly recommend to come here with a tour guide if you are wanting to get the most out of it. It is completely free if you want to come through on your own though.

Dawn was a spectacular tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable, great at sharing stories, background and her details about how the families designed their plots was fascinating.Lastly, very entertaining. Well worth your time.

Cemetary is awesome. Curious as to why Mr. Kieffer's headstone, along with many others, is in the river.

There is a phone number posted on the gate. Call that instead of the police, they have other things to worry about.
Yes and we did it its wonderful. They have maps which is awesome. However be prepared to not get the entire area covered in a day it is quite large
Yes. Every second Sunday afternoon the local historical society offers a free tour through the cemetery.
All cemeteries in Savannah are free. It's a huge Graveyard though. 100 acres. Grab a free map at the office to help you orient yourself and have fun. Absolutely beautiful.
Yes you can.
He's not in Bonaventure. He's buried in Gordon Ga
Yes it is
He’s buried in the Mercer family plot there
We spoke to the marker company near by and paid them to do our families markers. After that we buy granite cleaner from Lowes and do it ourselves now. Spray on wash off. Thee are water spouts near by so we bring a garden watering can to rinse with. Hope this helps you in some small way.
There are no hotels in the vicinity. Stay in the historic district since you can easily walk anywhere.
Yes, you can. It is a lovely place to ride.
I'm not aware of any restrictions (except that they have to be dead 😉).
Call and ask directly I believe it depends on season
Typically their hours are going to be From Dusk Till Dawn. I do know that law enforcement does Patrol the area quite frequently. I don't know if they actually close the gate to deter people from being able to walk the cemetery at night.
Contact our office at (912) 651-6843, Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM or you can search our burial records at http://savannah.cemsites.com/.
There are some parking places inside the cemetery in front of the reception otherwise the more places are outside in front of the cemetery with direct access to the cemetery.
No there is not but you can move with your vehicle in some paths of the cemetery.
I would suggest Uber or Lyft as well.
Findagrave.com is a possible resource, as well.
Bonaventure historical society provides tours once a month. They also offer private tours for non-profit groups and schools only as a service to the community. ( http://www.bonaventurehistorical.org/tours/schedule-a-private-tour/ ) There are a bunch of tour companies that do tours also - some even provide transportation from the historic district. I've done dash tours and Savannah heritage tour. Both very good.
I work there. The plantation owners wife is the first recorded burial on the property. 1802. Section E lot 1. Family's name Is Tattnel
207 west York st the bird girl is at the Telfair museum downtown. She is NO longer at Bonaventure cemetery not since 1994 when the movie came out.
I am glad you asked this question. Bonaventure cemetary is one of my favorite places to go. I have been on ghost hunting tours there. That being said, here are a few books you can get to tell not only about the interred but also stories about them. All these books, by the way are available through Barnes and Noble. 1) Bonaventure Cemmetary:Photographs from the Georgia Historical Society by Wilson and Johnson 2)Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah Georgia by Arnaud and Durkee, 3)Remember me: within the walls of Bonaventure Cemetery by Turner. Also, you can look upon the official Bonaventure website, which will guide you on finding out facts about the interred. Hope this helps you out
Where Bonaventure is located is safe. An awesome tourist attraction. They have tours every day. We have done plenty of restoration work to preserve some of the older sections. A wonderful visit.
Just a reminder to the departed that they had a visitor
There is no fee to enter the cemetery unless you want to pay for the guided tour. I do however suggest purchasing a map. It has some interesting things on it about some of the people buried there. I found it very helpful along with an app you can download for a self-guided tour.
No
Yes it's totally do able and fine and such, but it might be a workout!!!
Yes. Or on a leash, too.
You can stop at the visitors center abd ask for a map, and the wonderful people there can tell you the exact location
Yes I guess. I did see the dog on leash from someone who brought along.
Yes there is parking available near the entrance gate but driving inside the cemetery is recommended. You can stop the car and get around.
Not sure that is a proper place to get married. It's a cemetery and active one with new burials at that. There is an office on site so i would check with them for a definitive answer though.
I would stop buy the building/office in the front, just off to the right. If anyone would know where his grave is, they would.
