On the morning of my roommate and I’s visit to The Refuge they invited a Republican candidate for Congress on stage to share about his campaign for 15 minutes, after which the lead pastor offered his endorsement of the candidate (the pastor stipulated that it was his “personal” endorsement and not the church’s “official” endorsement— I guess to skirt laws about political activity in the pulpit?) Afterward the pastor gave a “sermon” about the founding of America as a Christian nation and quoted extensively from Thomas Jefferson and others (no mention of slavery or genocide, of course). All in all, I felt blindsided, appalled and finally very sad following the service. Evangelicals truly have traded the pure Gospel and discipleship for political activism (ironically he all but named Elevation while bemoaning politically neutral churches, yet they played several Elevation worship songs). So I would only recommend The Refuge to those seeking a conservative rally. But they did have good coffee.

I came to North Carolina for the weekend to visit my girlfriend. I hadn't been to the new campus. I used to go to the one that was in Concord. This is the best place I've ever been for Church.
