Yes, my family was visiting from out of town. We took the ferry Christmas Eve. There is a St. John's Ferry website you can check to see their business hours. Anytime the ferry is down for maintenance they have it on there as well

About 20, but you need to plan on the times the ferry picks up. Sometimes it takes 30 or so for it to arrive on your side. That would increase total trip to 50 mins
