We enjoy living/volunteering here. EVC is one of the largest cohousing communities in the U.S. A modern, self-organized, green, diverse, imperfect Village that shares best practices w/larger cohousing networks. Our (low cost) heat & AC are geothermal. Our roof & exterior are green. We own our separate unique condos & share together in extra indoor & outdoor common spaces & events, as we wish. Like a village, we look out for each other & share chores & tools. If you like being active & generous in serving your diverse neighborhood community; see our web site for tours. Traditionally, throughout human history, "cohousing" (any self-organized community w/separate homes around common spaces) comes in many shapes & sizes (& can be urban, suburban or country). Eastern Village Cohousing is an owner occupied condominium. Any rentals are privately handled by unit owners. See easternvillage.org for more information and to join the email list.
Thank you for asking! Eastern Village Cohousing is very much intergenerational. We have had varied ages over the years from babies to 90+ years old. Our community is in a urban area in downtown Silver Spring so there is definitely the noise of the city. In addition, units facing into the courtyard are more exposed to the energy (and noise) of the community than those that are inside or in the back of the building.
