Moved into the Rixey as a GMU graduate student 2018 and the process for lease renewals has had challenges but this year beats all previous. Working with building manager Richard McNabb has led to constant changes in policies. First he avoided answering emails and phone calls and I had to contact Marymount University in order to start dialogue about the lease renewal process. Initially was told only students can stay here, which is fine because I am a full time graduate student . Then the story became only MU students can stay here. Now I have been admitted as a MU student and the story is "well only single bedroom apartments are available" because no one wants to share an apartment with an older black student, so you have to pay more to stay here then other students. To add insult to injury, the lease I was bound to according to the previous building manager, Morgan Stokes, can now be reneged.

Beware!!! Do not trust the information posted on their website. I applied for a lease at Rixey, paid the application fee, and later found out that they only lease apartments to students. While googling for places near Arlington, I came across Rixey. It had decent reviews on google, so I went ahead and applied for a lease through their webpage. I decided to take a tour of the place once the application gets approved and before signing the lease. I did not hear back from them for a few days, so I called them to understand what was going on, and that's when they let me know that they only lease apartments to students. That came as a surprise because I am so sure that I checked the terms while applying, and they haven't mentioned it on their website. But I'm so glad that I used my credit card to pay the application fee. Even if it was just 30$, I disputed the charge. I hate giving away my money to scammers.

I found The Rixey while searching for apartments at apartments.com. The description says “ Welcome to the best in student living at The Rixey”. I’m a student getting my bachelors, and I also am a FT employee, so I applied. As the primary applicant I completed the application and paid the $30 fee. While waiting for my co-applicant to fill out her part of the application I read Google reviews and came across the 1 star review that says “this place only rents to students”. I called The Rixey to verify this statement before my co-applicant filled out hers (and paid another $30) because she’s not a student, and I needed to make sure she is allowed to apply. To my surprise, they said she can’t live there if she’s not a student, only me. So I referred back to their terms & conditions and the application I completed but nowhere they ask you if you are a student or to upload student ID, nothing. This is misleading and I emailed the property manager for a refund but I was ignored. I’m not broke over $30 but here what counts is the principle. I bet many other people fall for this just as I did.
