Questions & Answers

Do you replace sliding door rollers?

Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022
Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022

Yes! We do replace rollers if needed. Of course, we try to clean the tracks and rollers and adjust first. If that does not work, we will discuss replacing the rollers for you.

Can you buff scratches out of glass?

Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022
Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022

Scratch removal in residential glass and light commercial applications is not a commercially viable solution. Basically, it is labor-intensive and not very successful. Furthermore, if the customer is not satisfied with the result, they are understandably not willing to pay for the time and materials invested by the glass company. Scratch removal and scratch buffing systems exist; however, they are typically only practical in warehouses, industrial, and on larger commercial glass projects. Please call our Glass Doctor office if you would like a more detailed explanation.

Only the bottom section of my window is broken. Do you have to change the entire sash, or can you just change the glass in my frame?

Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022
Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022

We specialize in glass replacement. We can, in most cases, remove the glass from the frame and install new glass. Your existing window sash will remain.

We are remodeling our bathroom and would like our existing mirror cut down to a smaller size. Can you do that?

Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022
Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022

Most likely. However, if the mirror is glued to the wall, there is no guarantee that it can be taken down without breaking. If you can get the existing mirror off the wall, we will need the mirror brought to our shop to cut down. There is no guarantee that the mirror will cut without breaking either. We cannot be responsible if a piece of glass or mirror that belongs to a customer breaks when trying to cut it, but we always do our best to cut carefully.

How do I know if my glass is a tempered safety glass?

Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022
Glass Doctor - Owner | May 21, 2022

If you use steam to fog the glass, you will see a tempered logo in one of the corners that shows the glass is safety glass. There are code requirements for safety glass as well. Consult with your local Glass Doctor for those requirements.

Glass Doctor of Northwest Indiana | Oct 19, 2019

Currently we are use urethane that has a 1-hour safe drive-away time from the time the new windshield is set. No need for blue tape or any holds on washing your car. You are fully protected at the 60-minute mark.

What is your breakage guarantee?

Glass Doctor of Northwest Indiana | Oct 19, 2019
Glass Doctor of Northwest Indiana | Oct 19, 2019

For auto glass, we have the best guarantee in the nation, upon installation of a new windshield. If you choose our Road Hazard Guarantee, you will then be covered for a full 12 months. Should you get a rock chip in that new windshield, Glass Doctor will repair it at no cost to you, and it covers you for all rock chips received in the 12 months--no limit. Should you receive damage that is not repairable such as a long crack or significant damage in the driver’s view area, we will replace the windshield for no cost to you for the glass material, but you would be responsible for the cost of labor, adhesive and moldings, depending upon the type of coverage you purchase at time of original install.
