Cane River Creole National Historical Park

We visited this national historic park while passing through LA. My 9 yo son has a goal of hitting all the national parks and we try to see as much of the historical sites on the way. This spot is a quick visit on a self guided tour through a plantation. You'll learn about daily living in the early 1900s and can tour the various structures and go inside the main house and store. The volunteer ranger at the main house was helpful and pleasant. The park ranger at the store swore my junior ranger in and gave him a badge and patch. Great visit overall with minimal crowds on a summer Saturday morning.

Well worth the trip. I've never been on a plantation and it is filled with history. Which my granddaughter loved. We had nice weather. You can't go in the main house but you can go in some of the others. I wouldn't recommend it in the summer though, everything is in the sun. Has rest room & water drinking fountain. Park employees are very knowledgeable and friendly.

We stopped here on our way back to Texas. They have done a great job preserving old homes and their history. I can't believe it was free! The staff were extremely friendly. I would definitely recommend for families and solo travelers. I learned a lot and it made a lasting impression.
