Great place to bring the kids and introduce them to life (life outside of Costco and iPhones) on our planet. The collection and display of animals is sufficient to keep the little ones oohing and aahing at every turn. And with thoughtful yet direct explanations of extinction displayed in a couple of places, the museum gives a stark reminder of our collective responsibility to be loving caretakers of our world.

I took my 20 month old twins here with my sister and we had a blast. There is a small play area and some interactive parts, but the majority of the museum is a look, but don't touch situation. As an adult I loved it and particularly enjoyed the evolution wall and the beautiful paintings on the walls. My toddlers had a ton of fun looking at the different animals and making the sounds they would make. This museum is probably more appropriate for grade school and above, but we had fun. Update: my nearly 4 year old twins still love it here. We love to come after school for a fun activity.

Disappointed in the quality of the recent renovations and, more especially, the exhibits which are amateurish, disjointed, and poorly designed. Quality of the museum is greatly reduced from what it was several decades ago.

You can determine a lot about the physiology of an animal from the fossil remains including what they ate and how they moved. Most soft tissue is a guess since that does not get preserved with the bone. They do a good job of explaining the reasoning behind their scale model in videos throughout the exhibit.
