I spend many hours here with my teenage daughter perusing mostly the manga and arts/crafts how-to books. Always friendly and helpful staff, easy check-out kiosks everywhere. Occasionally we rent a movie. Lucky to have this quality library so close to home.

Beautiful location. Always kept very clean and the staff is very friendly. Wide selection of anything that you need. Has a beautiful lake outback that you can walk around with many sculptures.

The Library does not offer tax preparation help. However, we can provide you with contact information for other reliable agencies that can help you. Please ask at one of the service desks for more information.
It is open the hours that the library is open.
Yes. On online catalog or at the library
Yes they do deliver. Not sure about distance.
Yes, we are. You can put in a request online here: https://www.wdmlibrary.org/reserve-room You will then be contacted by staff with an approval. Have a great day!
Hi Mary. The state does not send us paper forms to hand out. We have some reproducibles you can copy OR we can help you print out what you need from the Iowa tax website (20c/page for printing). Everything you need is at https://tax.iowa.gov You can call the state to have forms sent to you: 1-800-532-1531 Resources we have at the library are always listed here: https://www.wdmlibrary.org/resources/tax-info Let us know how we can help!
Answer: Irwin C. Vermeulen served as mayor of West Des Moines in 1960-1961. He was referred to as I.C. Vermeulen. This information was found in the book West Des Moines : from railroads to crossroads, 1893-1993. https://encore.wdm.iowa.gov/iii/encore/record/C__Rb1245464?lang=eng Hope this helps!
We have an ongoing sale of materials. The sale shelves are on the 1st floor, currently in the atrium toward the back. Any staff member can direct you. We generally have books, paperbacks and magazines. Materials are put out as they are ready, so it pays to check back often. Items can be paid for at the First Floor Service Desk. Prices are as follows: $1.00 for adult hardcover books 50 cents for juvenile hardcover books $1.00 for DVDs $1.00 for CDs 10 cents for magazines 25 cents for all paperback books 50 cents for tape cassettes All other items as marked
As others indicated, there are benches just outside our front doors, as well along the walking trail around the adjacent pond. There are tables and chairs closer to City Hall, on their patio. It's also along the walking path.
Yes, we have easily accessable wifi. Feel free to ask at one of the service desks for more information.
If you are a resident of West Des Moines and have a valid WDM Library card you can visit our website to reserve your pass. http://www.wdmlibrary.org/using-the-library/adventure-passes/.
Around the City complex pond is 0.52 miles, so about 1/2 a mile. Thanks for asking!
We do not have a shredder for patrons to use. Local office supply stores - Office Depot/Max, etc. - do have shredding services for a fee. Local banks and credit unions also sometimes have "community shredding days" where you can bring your shredding for free. Veridian Credit Union's Ankeny branch is having a community shred day on May 11th: https://www.veridiancu.org/events/community-shred-day I would call ahead to be sure of that date. A few others happened this last weekend, but I don't see any others coming up.
We don't work with either of those companies. However, we have many other streaming offerings, eBooks and eAudiobook options. Below are some links to get you started. eBooks/eAudiobooks: http://www.wdmlibrary.org/using-the-library/ebooks-and-eaudiobooks/ Streaming Video options: http://www.wdmlibrary.org/streaming-content/evideo/ I particularly recommend you look at the RBDigital offerings on that page.
The Friends Foundation - whose event this is - have now decided to Postpone the event due to the impending weather. We don't have a new date, but watch our Calendar and the Friends' Facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/wdmlibraryfriends/ Thanks for your interest!
We don't have a large collection of foreign-language books, but we can help you find them. We can also borrow from other libraries, if you have particular books or authors you're looking for.
They do have a printer and its 50 cents per colored sheet and 20 cents per black and white sheet and if you have a library card you get a free dollar every day to print
We do not have a laminator, sorry. Many local office supply stores offer lamination or do-it-yourself lamination kits for purchase. Good luck!
Deborah - The library does not require a West Des Moines Public Library card to use our public computers. Just ask for a guest pass at the service desk. You would need to get a WDM card to checkout materials. If you are a resident of Iowa and have an ID with your current address you can get a library card with us!
We do not sell books - we do have some for sale in our ongoing book sale downstairs, but they are usually older titles that have been weeded from our collection. If you need to purchase a book, you'll want to look at bookstores - either physical or online.
