Close the the Gateway Arch national park. A short walk in the park leads to the bridge where you can view the Mississippi River and the railroads down below. There are also helicopter rides nearby. Seems too much commercialized.

A National Historic Landmark, the Eads Bridge was the first bridge built across the Mississippi south of the Missouri River. In fact, of all the bridges that currently span the river, James Buchanan Eads' masterpiece is the oldest. It popularized the first large scale use of steel and construction techniques used in later bridges such as the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. A grail type visit for bridge aficionados.
