DO NOT GO HERE!!!! My grandma went because she had cellulitis and stayed in the hospital then was transferred to Parkway Manor for recovery. She has been really healthy, never any issues, but she started losing her appetite. I asked the nurses at the station why she wasn't eating or drinking much and they said they think she is depressed and wants to go home. She kept getting worse and worse to where she was skin and bones. She was so weak and got to where she couldn't even feed herself anymore. I asked for a feeding tube and they said that was a last resort and would give her an antidepressant and appetite suppressant. A few days later she still wasn't eating, so I asked them again because every day she was looking worse than the prior day. They said they would give her an appetite suppressant and that she was probably just depressed. I said they were supposed to already be giving her one. It was about two weeks of literally watching my grandma die slowly from starvation and then I said I want her to be transferred to the hospital. The nurse said she had labs done and they were all normal. I still insisted she go to the hospital. When she got to the hospital her blood sugar was 39!! She could have died if I didn't use my intuition and get her help. They gave her glucose and fluids at the hospital because she was severely dehydrated. I seen the labs from Parkway and her blood sugar was 51 which is insanely low and they had the nerve to tell me that her labs were normal!! Did someone say law suit??? If she had stayed she would have been dead. I went to pick her stuff up and a woman was standing outside one of the rooms and said her dad just died. I had a coworker tell me that she had two sets of grandparents come here and they died shortly after. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!! They just want to cash that check, they do not care about the patients!!!!

BEWARE!!!!! Never put anyone in their quarantined wing! We were forced to put our dad there for 14 days before he could go to Bounce Back Rehabilitation. It was a 15’ X 15’ cell! It was 24 hours a day of isolation from everyone you love and know. My dad had very little interaction or communication with anyone all day or night. It was like being in prison solitary confinement! There are so many things that are appalling about this wing! Just to name a few! He didn’t have a shower for 10 days until we finally complained and demanded that he get one. My dad sat around in a Depends “diaper” and T-shirt (that wasn’t even his) because they lost his 8 sets of clothes that we sent with him. We were informed that they sometimes “just share the clothes” or “use them from previous residents or ones that have left or died!” Those words were actually told to my mother when she asked about my dad’s clothes. The day we were finally allowed to see my dad, he had severe wounds around his ankles from where dirty socks (that were too small and too tight) had been left on too long. His portable urinal (that was sitting on his eating table) was crusty, dirty, and disgusting! My dad was in terrible medical condition! We could tell the minute we saw him that he needed immediate medical assistance! There were several staff members who were EXTREMELY hateful with us when we explained about our disgust of the condition of our father! We were right! After evaluation at Carbondale ER, he was taken by ambulance to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. My dad passed away 5 days later! Tina Calhoun, the administrator of the rehab facility called my mom….a week after my dad’s passing…asking if $100 was enough money to cover the clothes they can’t find. Not one word out of her mouth about condolences for our loss! Not one word about how hateful they treated us the day we left with my dad! Not one word of apology! Shame on you!!!!! SHAME ON EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IN THAT QUARANTINE WING THAT NEGLECT PATIENT AFTER PATIENT….DAY AFTER DAY….NIGHT AFTER NIGHT! #poorhealthcare #centralcomplaintregistryhotline #IllinoisDepartmentOfPublicHealth #officeofhealthcareregulations #centralcomplaintregistry

The staff here are excellent. I have witnessed true caring by the nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and especially the aides. Very helpful group of humans working to help seniors who have had a recent medical instability. The building is "home-like" despite being so large. Nice place to send grandma or grandpa after a hospital stay due to stroke, major cardiac event, surgery, or fall. The Bounce Back wing is fantastic.
