Greens and fairways were in good to very good shape (but not great). Time should fix this as I saw there were improvements being made. My one major complaint was the rough. 3" is too high. And the fact that it was possible to lose a ball in the grass caused the pace of play to slow down considerably. I would suggest that since this is a public course in a tourist dependent area that the rough be cut to 2". This would still be an area you want to avoid without making you worry that you will actually lose a ball in the rough. Think about it.....would you want to play a course where the rough is so deep you could lose a ball? Vacations are supposed to be fun. You can make a course challenging without decreasing the enjoyment of playing it.

My favorite layout on the Strand. Beautifully deigned holes. Some very challenging green complexes (typical of Nicklaus) but if you play from the correct set of tees (I'd say one forward of where you typically play) you'll have fun. Pro shop and snack bar staff are excellent. As for conditioning, only negative I've seen is that mowing practices aren't the best. Doesn't look like they are mowing frequently enough and clearly the putting surfaces have shrunk considerably over the years. But with greens fees relatively low and labor costs crazy high it's understandable. My favorite thing about this course is that sometimes at the very end of the day once the course clears of regular play you can walk instead of ride and it is a great walk!

Tight course. The fairways were vut nicely. The only bummer was that the greens were in fairly rough shape. 😕 3 out of 5
