After much consideration I chose HSS on their reputation and on the very confident Dr. Steven McAnany, who told me no doubt my quality of life would improve after surgery with him. After surgery, I was left with bi-lateral drop foot. I fully understand that there are always risks with surgery, but after meeting with many specialists of equal status I have been told the surgery should have been discontinued when he ran into complications. Dr. McAnany chose a risky route and left me permanently handicap. After weeks in Stamford Hospital then Gaylord Hospital where I spent another 6 weeks learning life skills for the handicapped, how to fall without breaking anything, cook, clean and bathe. I was unable to walk, spending several months in a wheelchair, then to a walker. Three years later, many surgeries, procedures and endless PT, I am able to walk with a brace. SO much more has been taken from me. I’m left on a unlivable fixed disability income, I am a burden to my family and friends who I depend on for so much. The cost has been high physically, emotionally, mentally, financially and spiritually.

I would like to complain about the HSS ring-back service. This is the process so far. I was given an HSS doctor referral number where a member of HSS advised on a doctor for me to schedule with a 1 Blachley, Stamford I was told by the advisor than I would get a call back from the Dr's assistant/nurse Two days later i had a voicemail from the office and was advised to call back. I did but the call did not go direct to the doctors office but to another call service. They forwarded my call back request to the office. I never heard back I called again 2 or 3 days later. Again I could not get direct to the office but the same call service . Again they requested a call back for me. Again nothing. I have called 4 times over the course of a week and have heard nothing back. No matter how busy everyone is , this service is awful and reflects badly on HSS. There is no doubt that when I eventually get an appointment that the struggle of getting that appointment and the inefficiency of the scheduling service will color my expectation of the overall customer service. I will also have to mention this to the office when i eventually get an appointment which is a really bad way to start any relationship with a new Doctor. HSS need to reexamine the way appointments are handled and people are called back (or not)

Good doctors but prices are a bit out of control.
