The emergency department was a HUGE disappointment. I have a ruptured disc in my back that sometimes crushes my sciatic nerve. It got so bad last night that I called an ambulance to come get me because I could not get up. They sent multiple nurses in to ask me the same questions over and over. When the doctor (Dr Miller) finally came in, she did not talk to me about my back at all. She asked if I had seen a doctor about it, and I said yes, that they wanted to eventually do surgery. She winced a little bit and said you're really young for that. But you may be out of other options. And walked out. I never saw her again. The nurse brought in an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer, and a steroid. And they had me signing discharge papers before the medication even kicked in. The pain never stopped. Nobody asked me about my pain level. Nobody asked how I was doing. And nobody asked how I was getting home. They just sent me to the front lobby to wait. Never again will I be going there for something like that. Their discharge papers say to come back if you have difficulty walking. I literally couldn't walk out of the hospital. They rolled me to the lobby in a wheelchair. Wouldn't it make sense for them to get me to where I could walk at least, If that is a criteria for coming back? It was 2:30 in the morning at this point. I couldn't go get the prescriptions filled. So I told the nurse that what they had given me would be well worn off by the time I could get the prescription filled. He looked at me, said "I see what you're saying," and walked away. *UPDATE:* With worsening symptoms and pain, I went to Huntsville Hospital ER Sunday morning. They worked all day on getting my pain under control. They performed an MRI, and found that I actually needed surgery now. They scheduled my surgery for the next morning and Dr Rodriquez did an AMAZING job getting me free from pain! Every single person I encountered was kind and compassionate. It will ALWAYS be worth the drive for me and my family to not go to Madison.

Huntsville hospital has issues. Wasn’t able to go up to see newborn grandson because father and mother counts as two people so only my wife could go see him. That’s a really weird and uncaring policy that will not benefit anyone. And now you need a government issued ID for visitation? Do you patients do better when you restrict family members to only two? I know this will not change anything and it’s just a complaint from a grandfather who wanted to see his new grandson but come on Huntsville hospital. Really?

There is no reason a person should have to wait FIVE HOURS to be seen in the emergency room. Period. I brought my friend here with neurological symptoms. We came to the ER around 4pm. It is currently 9pm and the only thing that has been done for my friend is their vital signs. We are STILL WAITING. This is unacceptable. No one should have to wait 5+ hours to be cared for. By the time a person is seen here, significant damage could have already been done to their health due to the sheer amount of time spent in the waiting room.

I would recommend getting a referral TOC to a spine and neck doctor there by the name of Dr. Ghavam. You will get care by doctor who specializes in that field.
