This court is terrible. Does not make any sense. Tells people they have to do one thing, and then it's really another. They give out information that they aren't supposed to. Tried to file for a stay they never even had us come into court? Didn't even speak to us before deciding a judgement? How does this make any sense? The staff is very nasty and unhelpful. Cuts you off as you ask questions. Restraining order against someone was in the works so we didnt want our address given out to that person; woman at desk tells us we dont have to file a stay then. So we cant fight our case without disrupting our lives? Terrible service. Please don't ever use this court if you are filing a case.

Worst place ever! Crookhaven at it's finest!!

If you are served with a “notice to quit” show up to court when you’re served with the notice of petition. If the sheriff served a 14 day notice, bring the notice to the courthouse where the warrant was signed and ask to file an “order to show cause” to vacate a default judgment.
No. Mail in a check or money order, or pay in person with cash check or money order, or plastic (3% fee)
Yes, the form is called a “notice of appearance”
If the person or company you are suing is located in the 5 west towns of suffolk, you may use any of the 5 civil district courts. See https://www.nycourts.gov/legacypdfs/courts/10jd/suffolk/dist/pdf/DC-283web.pdf And http://ww2.nycourts.gov/courts/10jd/suffolk/dist/smallclaimsbook.shtml
You cannot ‘fight the ticket’ without appearing in court. If you cannot travel, hire a local attorney. You should notify the court clerk in writing of your correct mailing address. The address is on the appearance ticket. You may contact the Brookhaven town attorney - the prosecutor - at 631-451-town and ask for the law department. Once the town files the ticket with the court you can track the case on ecourts at nycourts.gov/crims.
No. Monday October 12 is a state holiday.
Yes
No
Check nycourts.gov/ecourts for a civil case, or call the clerk at 6313816100 for a town ordinance case. Have your index or docket number.
Generally, no, not that would suspend your license. Sixth district only hears Brookhaven town code violations. Most moving violations issued in the town of Brookhaven are adjudicated at Suffolk county traffic and parking violations agency, or the first district court in central islip, or the incorporated village where the offense allegedly took place.
Take the LIRR to Patchogue. It's a 5 minute walk from there.
The court fees $45 this does not include process serving and attorney's fees and mailings if you need to do them
Yes, it does. They close for lunch, believe it or not, so check the hours before you go.
