Mr. Akamine defended myself back in 2009 following a very poor decision made at a very young age. Understanding the severity and potential consequences of my decisions, Mr. Akamine’s representation allowed me to learn and grow from my mistakes without having to pay for them for the rest of my life. Now, why am I writing a review over a decade later? A couple of times over the years since, including this past week, I have had questions regarding my 2009 Case. Specifically in relation to activities that I am currently or potentially going to be involved in and whether or not my past might cause any issues or need to be disclosed. Mr. Akamine has continued to make himself available and is always more than willing to share his wealth of expertise, regardless of how many years have gone by. While I am no longer in Ohio myself, I would highly recommend Mr. Akamine’s services to anyone in need of representation in the Central Ohio area.

Questions & Answers

Will a DUI conviction show up on my background check?

It depends. A DUI conviction will definitely be reflected in your traffic record. As a result, your car insurance provider will likely categorize you as a “high risk” driver. Your insurance rates typically increase, or your policy may be canceled or denied renewal. A DUI conviction may or may not show on a criminal background check, depending on the type of check that is run.

Will I go to jail for a DUI conviction?

It depends. If this is your first offense, your chances of avoiding jail time are much greater. However, if you’re facing your second or subsequent conviction for multiple DUIs, Ohio law mandates a jail term. A case involving an injury or death also involves a jail or prison sentence. Even if there is strong evidence against you, an experienced DUI lawyer may be able to negotiate a resolution that avoids a jail sentence.
