UPDATE: I am compelled to edit my original review as I am not as likely to recommend Heatherwood Lakeside in Patchogue as I would have been four or so years ago. There are several reasons for this: 1. Rent on my two-bedroom apt has increased by more than 8% after just one year of moving from a one-bedroom. That's in addition to a $25/month common charge imposed this year for use of facilities. I am okay with the common charge as I do take advantage of the pool during the summer months but that adds up to $300 extra/year - for those who do not make use of the facilities (pool, gym, clubhouse), that's not an insignificant charge. 2. Laundry facilities are very bad. There are always broken machines that never get fixed. Floors and machines are dirty. It's near impossible to get my laundry done without mutliple trips due to the high demand for the machines that DO work. I am going to start taking my laundry off-site as a result. 3. Although grounds are mowed, trimmed and treated regularly and are overall in excellent shape, they stopped adding mulch around all the beds so it's just bare dirt/sand. Just not as attractive. 4. There has been an influx of renters who are not interested in maintaining the exterior of their apartments, who are loud & disrespectful, and/or do not appear to be employed. It was not this way at all when I started renting in 2016. There are no background checks done here unlike at other apartment complexes I have considered. 5. There are renters who use their patios as junkyards. There is one in particular that has been allowed to prop a car hood against it's windows for years! When I say junkyards, I mean anything & everything on display. Nothing is enforced & management don't seem that concerned about aesthetics or the needs of tenants who take pride in their surroundings. 6. The security gate and attendant were removed about a year or so ago. It used to be operational from 10 pm - 6 am. Now - nothing. I will add that the maintenance team is still as wonderful now as they were when I first moved in. They are responsive, courteous and very efficient. On the whole, however, the Lakeside Heatherwood complex has noticeably deteriorated in recent years. When I'm able to, I will relocate and rent elsewhere. There just isn't value for money here, especially when one factors in the lack of updates to the interiors which are extremely basic and dated. What may have been considered "Luxury" 25 years ago certainly isn't now! ****************************************************************** ORIGINAL POST I have lived at Lakeside for 5 1/2 years and have been very happy there. The grounds are beautifully maintained and management are by & large very easily accessible & responsive. Maintenance calls are handled very swiftly, always within 24 hours, more often just a few hours. The maintenance staff themselves are very personable & professional. I have an upper unit balcony overlooking a wooded area rather than a parking lot which is ideal. The only reason for taking one star off is because they don't have the upgrades one would expect inside an apartment, e.g., granite counters, high-hat lighting, modern cabinets - at least not in the model I am in (I know they upgrade newly rented apartments to some extent but not with higher end fittings that other apartment complexes do). I am lucky to be at a location with a large in-ground pool which I take full advantage of. The gym is also very well maintained - another bonus I enjoy. The pricing is very reasonable for Long Island, as well. I would definitely recommend Heatherwood!

Living here the past 4 years has been a wonderful experience. Looking forward to staying here many more. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff and how professional Superintendent Jonathan is. You can tell he cares about his work and making sure the tenants are happy. Anytime I have had a problem it is dealt with promptly. The grounds are kept beautiful and love being surrounded by nature and the beautiful lake. Thanks for providing me a place to call home.
