I have been here for 18yrs and would not want to live anywhere else. It is the perfect place to live.

Do you get to keep the money from your house or do you have to give it to the facility?

You keep it. It is not a retirement home where they take your assets and you stay forever -- It is "independent living" -- with the bonus of being rent controlled - which means they base rent on monthly income and then your required expenses for health etc (like if you have to spend a lot one year for medical care this is taken into account, and they reasses yearly). You also need to be able to live alone.. If you need round the clock nursing you need your own nurse - that form of care isn't supplied by the facility. So if you get too ill to live alone and can't get a nurse of your own then you would have to be relocated to a facility with care.
