Most NIU students I know, myself included, have either: 1) Never gotten a response when we tried to contact or sign up for TransVac 2) Been told TransVac did not have rides available for us This means that many of us, including myself, have paid out of pocket for transportation to classes, practica or internships, medical appointments, mental health appointments, etc. The disabled and chronically ill students of NIU and residents of DeKalb are guaranteed equal access to transportation under the ADA.

Disabled students have had to CC the President of the NIU Student Association to get a response to calls or emails to register for rides for Fall or Spring classes. We should not have to CC someone in authority or leave a bad review to get accessible transportation. We are already guaranteed accessible transportation under the ADA and by paying full tuition, just like abled students.

I need rides to my physical therapy appts. I spoke w Marty who informed me that I needed to fill out an application. He mailed it to me, I filled out & returned. My first ride was Tues 10-19, no complaints. Also, talked to Nick who set up my rides. Both gentlemen were nice & answered my questions. Thank you both for helping me in getting me where I need to go.

Les you would need to be registered with TransVac and call the dispatch number to schedule a ride. The phone number is 815-758-6641. If the ride is for a medical appointment you would call MedVac at 815-758-0818. If you are not yet registered with TransVac you can download a registration form from our website at www.vacdk.org and fax that to 815-758-0202 to get registered.
