Went there with my family fishing, it's a really nice place lots of walking trails, great place to take kids or go fishing. Nice playground, fishing piers.

It was great learning about the history of this place. It is unfortunate what happened because so many people lost their homes.

How is it they going to charge $4 a person just to take their kids to the park.. if it was fishing I'd understand.. not saying it's expensive but it's pointless
Raychel Sparrow (Traveling Sparrow) | Oct 12, 2018
Yes it costs, the other people who are answering is wrong... its 4.00 per person 13 and over, 65 and over is 1.00, 5 to 12 is 1.00, and 4 and under is free. Year passes is 30.00 for individual, 65.00 for family. The family pass is for the card holder plus 5 adults, 12 and under is counted but no limit. There is no car load price. I have worked there for 4 years now. These have been the prices for over 2 years now. There are no free days any more, the park gets so trashed the city stopped doing the free day.
Who maintains the play area of the Nature Center? We visited over the weekend with grandchild, had a great time. But, concerned about exposed nails in some of play areas.

Not sure , but I believe it is the city of Baytown.
Can I take a small portable grill? I can’t find anything on the website.

Yes. They have areas to set up if you like.
How is the fishing

I am not sure what is being caught currently, but the brackish bays are home to drum, trout, croaker, catfish, etc.... all the usual suspects for our area. I noticed a lot of boat fishing happening in Scott Bay a few weekends ago so maybe the fish are biting. Remember, a TPWD fishing license is required for fishing in any public water body.
Do you need a fishing license? I contacted the center and a rep said one was needed.

Yes, a TPWD fishing license is required for anyone over the age of 17. While we do not check for a license, a game warden could show up at any time and check.
Where can you buy bait?

Goose Creek Park and Baytown Nature Center are some good spots for fishing. My Instagram page has some pics of them: @klipps_48
They're not all that strict.....been fishing there for over 5 years ...I've only seen the game warden once. Heard about them showing up a few other times....but I've only seen them one time.
There was a catastrophic land sink there in the 70s there's a graveyard right off the bank when the tides low the gravestones can be seen this is a place of death
I bird there but never have fished there. Today it didn't look like people were catching anything. I often talk to fishers and they are not usually real happy about what they are catching.
