In late August of 2022 I attempted to withdraw $1,000 from my savings account here and I have been unable to receive funds. Today I was transferred to four different people for one issue that I am having. I was informed by the rep I finally did speak with that it is his last week and that there are a lot of layoffs occurring. The customer service rep's name is Michael. He told me that his department was much larger and has recently shrunk in size. I do not know the exact numbers from how large to how small.

I recently tried opening a checking account here after moving to the area. All seemed well until I went to write a check from my new account. Empower bounced the check even though I had the funds to cover it. It turns out that I was given a debit card only account, which does not allow any ACH transactions or check writing. I was not informed of this restriction when opening the account, and the representative who opened it even ordered checks for me. When I tried to sort this out, I was told that I was ineligible for a standard checking account because I was from out of town. Upon asking for details about the eligibility criteria, I was told, "we don't really have a set criteria. If you come back in two to three months, we can re-evaulate." The one bright spot is that they didn't give me any trouble when I closed my accounts. This was for a basic checking account, not a loan. Visions FCU opened the account I needed without any trouble, and their stuff seems to work well. I'm glad that many folks have had good experiences with Empower, but they sure act like they don't want any new business.

I have been banking with Empower FCU for years, as for day to day banking I have no complaints. However the message center in the Empower banking app is useless. I had messaged regarding fraudulent charges on my card and got no response. If you have any issues that require a quick response I do not recommend the message center.
