Very nice people make recycling a joy

The only thing they could be better at is the days open. We can buy beer every day of the week here but can’t keep a recycle center open every day! Priorities Salina!!!

Almost no wait when I arrived. It was super quick to unload and staff were nice.

Dillon's on Crawford and the local target will take those back in the bins they have set for them😁👍
Unfortunately no, the SDRC does not take those.
I would check with local animal shelters, they can be repurposed with air holes for temporary cat transport. Also with a small opening cut in the side make wonderful shelters for stray cats in the winter.

No, unfortunately that is not something we can take.
No, unfortunately we do not take PVC pipe. I'll keep this in mind though and update my answer here if I locate anyone who does. Regards, Jim.
Found a place in Kansas City—MRC Electronic Recycling. Had to pay, but feel better about doing it the right way....
Great question Eric! Yes, I am happy to say that since September 19, the SDRC accepts shredded paper. In fact, we've had over 300 customers drop off nearly 2,300 pounds of it. That's 88 bags (95-gallon cart bags) of shredded paper we've recycled to date! Shredded paper must be separated from all other recyclables accepted at the facility. It must be clean and dry. It is preferred that it be placed in brown paper grocery bags or clear plastic bags, but staff will accept other separated bags (i.e. plastic) or containers. What’s accepted (shredded): Blueprints (paper only) Brochures (paper only) Copier paper Colored paper Craft paper Credit Cards (mixed in with paper) Notebook paper Plain paper envelopes Utility statements (and other bills) What’s not accepted (shredded): Cardboard Inserts Junk Mail Magazines Newspapers Paperboard Plastic films Stickers Wax paper I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me at (785) 309-5750 if you have further questions. Thanks again! ~Jim
Yes, we accept all plastic beverage, food, & soap containers (plastics 1-7). However, we don't accept plastic bags, polystyrene (Styrofoam - even with a number 6 or 7 on it), packaging “peanuts”, or thin film plastics. For a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items, please visit our website at http://www.salina-ks.gov/SDRC or stop by and see Matt and Tony. They'd be happy to speak with you and give you a brochure. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you there!
SDRC hours are as follows, except on standard city holidays: Monday: Closed Tuesday: Closed Wednesday: 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Thursday: 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday: 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday: 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday: Closed
No, unfortunately expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam), even with a recycling number, is not accepted at the regional Material Recovery Facility where we take our recyclables. The technology to recycle Styrofoam does exist. There just isn't a demand for it in our market. One problem stems from its limited usage when it is recycled. Another issue for some places, even when a market exists, is food, tape, glue, and other contamination. The closest place that I am aware is in Kansas City at ACH Foam Technologies. You can find them here: https://www.achfoam.com/recycle-eps.aspx They recycle: #6 molded polystyrene foam plastic that is white, clean, dry and free of debris: insulated coolers or protective packaging for electronics, household goods, and toys. They do not recycle: food-service cups, plates, takeout containers, meat trays, etc. or all non-foam polystyrene plastics. They do seem to have a mail-back program, though this may not be practical for you. I hope this helps! ~Jim
We do not check tags for admittance to the faculty. The SDRC accepts all approved recyclables from all Salina and Saline County residents, private businesses, and non-profits. We allow cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, commercial vehicles and trailers. If your load is large, we may move you out of the line and to the right of the traffic cones in order to allow smaller loads to continue as quickly as possible, but generally speaking, Matt and Tony are able to get you on your way quickly as well. We realize that some residents, such as our military community, may have out-of-County tags and accept those vehicles as well!
• Aluminum & steel (tin) beverage & food cans • Cardboard & pasteboard (flatten for better use of space) • Glass containers (all colors of food & beverage jars & bottles) • Magazines/catalogs, junk mail, office paper, books • Newspapers (including inserts) • Plastic beverage, food, & soap containers (plastics 1-7) • Shredded paper (beginning September 19, 2018 - must be bagged separately) • Aluminum Foil (including disposable aluminum baking trays) - must be clean and separated from all other recyclables. All proceeds from the sale of aluminum foil/trays goes to Salina Animal Services!
