Had dinner at Sampan. Have been there several times before but haven’t been in a couple years. Wanted to go back because, previously, we always had a good time and good innovative food. The waitress (I wish I could remember her name) told us that food is served tapas style and expect to order 3 to 4 plates per person. That was nothing new to us since we had been there several times before. After receiving our drinks we placed an order for our “first round” of food. The waitress then told us we had to order all the plates at once up front and was insistent about it. I said that was ridiculous since we never have had to do that previously, we didn’t know all that we wanted at that time and that would require us to order 12-16 plates of food at once. I told her I wanted to see the manager. About 15 minutes later the manager (Danny Lorenzo) came over and asked what was wrong. I explained to him the issue. His response was that the waitress told him that I cursed at her and he wouldn’t stand for that. I told him that I absolutely did not and that she outright lied to him. I also told him I couldn’t express how disappointed I was at the whole interaction with him. He offered to change servers which I said most definitely. Our new server Jon was much better. All in all, the menu was good but not as good it used to be. (Was hoping to have the skewered rolled mushrooms but they weren’t on the menu.) The Pork Lo Mein and Szechuan Chicken Stir Fry were the best plates we had. All others weren’t anything to write home about. Lastly, I will never go back due to the interaction with the waitress and the manager (Danny Lorenzo). We are fortunate that there are so many other great places to go like El Vez across the street which continuously provides great service and great food.

Christina R. — your service, your input, and your gentle way of maneuvering around our conversations…it doesn’t go unnoticed! The food is incredible but to have a server who matches everything is a 10/10, thank you!

Great spot! The portions aren’t the largest, but I like it because you’re able to try more things without eating too much/getting full too fast. The vibe is excellent, cocktails are tasty! Sea bass was super fresh and delicious!

Definitely not a place to take the kidsfor dinner. It's more of a buisness casual or date night type of resturant.

I don't think so but I'm not 100% sure. I've always gotten Happy hour via their graffiti bar in the back which has tables and seating. Or at the bar inside. I'm vaguely remembering sitting at a regular table with a large group and ordering happy hour but that was a long time ago.
