Bought and sold several cars from and to carmax over the years and always had a great experience. Until now. Did a 24 hour test drive on a 2019 ford expedition. It was the exact one I wanted with the right options and color. When I returned it, a check engine light came on and told the rep it was idling funny. He noted it and said service will take a look at it. Get a call a couple days later that the light was nothing and they didn’t find anything wrong. So I went ahead and bought the car knowing I had 30 days to return it if I changed my mind. A week after my 30 days were up the check engine light came on again. My app told me it was a “misalignment in the engine components and service would be due soon.” The light was on for a day or so then went away. Couple weeks later, it came on again. So I call their service dept and schedule an appt. Soonest they could get me in was 10 days away. By the time I come in for my appt the light was off again. I explained to them what happened and what the app was telling me. They take a look and say it’s an intermittent issue and theres nothing they can do at this time. So basically, yeah engine has something wrong with it but I have to drive it around till it breaks before they can fix it. So I drive it a few more days, it starts idling really rough again and now there’s a clicking noise coming from the engine. But no check engine light. I decide I’m done with it and bring it in for an appraisal. They quote me back $6k less than what I bought it for less than 3 months prior. After tax and registration fees I’m out $12k for a car they sold me that had issues before I even bought it. Very disappointed. And in addition to my own car issues, my husband bought a truck, it had suspension issues and he returned it within the 30 days. He bought another one instead and that one had engine problems as well. No check engine light but clearly making a weird sound. He returned it within the 30 days as well. So overall in the past 3 months we have purchased 3 bad cars from them. What are the chances. Unless they just don’t do a thorough inspection before they put the cars on the lot. Lost a loyal customer from us. Never buying another car from them. Not worth the hassle.

I'd ask them. I heard that you don't even have to buy a car from them to take yours. Might not be a great price though.

Car max has everything you need. They were so nice and quick. Made my car buying a great experience..
Usually that means that someone else has reserved it for a test drive. Either that person will decide to not buy the car and it will become available again, or that person will buy the car and it will be taken down. My advice is that if you like a car, hold it as soon as possible.
If they take your car they won't give cash but will give you a check. True you may get more selling yourself if the hassle is worth it to you

Carmax has done a decent job for us. It is wat it is no negotiations. At all. Always ask for carmax report and DMV report. Also if u have the money pay the 100 bucks for you're mechanic to look it over, well worth it. Happy car shopping

Hi Jessica. You can look for specific models and years of cars online, or call them. Either way Carmax's website is easy to use, or their staff at the dealerships are extremely helpful in answering specific questions you may have.
No specific amount required by Carmax until financing is ran on a specific vehicle. Finance companies may require down payment. With first time buyers, always recommended to put as much as possible.

The cheapest I’ve seen at their main lot start at like 10k. But maybe they can direct you to somewhere that has cheaper cars.
You can usually put however much you want as a down payment if that’s what you are referring to. Or you can do no down payment.. at least that’s my experience with them. 5 cars bought through car max
