I have the opportunity to have many people come to me for suggestions for places to go for Community Service. As a DWI Lawyer, this question comes up a lot. The inside books project has always been very friendly, and appreciative of the volunteers. The cause they serve is also one in which I think more people should be paying attention to.

A noble operation, a shame it's run by knuckleheads.....

I have been here a couple of times and have gotten nothing but bad attitudes from the employees here. They have yelled at volunteers. They have threatened to kick volunteers out for not telling them they were coming beforehand. Even when you email them to tell them you will be coming with a group they reject you and tell you not to come. I have never seen a place get so mad that they have "too many volunteers". I get that it is a small space, but I have never felt like I wasn't able to complete my purpose when there are "too many people". I would not recommend volunteering at this place unless you want to feel bad about even showing up to volunteer in the first place. The overall mission for this place is great, but the way they treat the people trying to help is sad.

Questions & Answers

Can anyone come and volunteer even if I'm 15 do I need to bring a adult with me ?

To my knowledge there is no requirement that minors be accompanied by adults. But everyone must email in advance to schedule a volunteering session. You can check to make sure that you don't need an adult's accompaniment when you do that.

My daughter is in Lowell annex prison and son is in gulf CI prison both in Florida. Do y'all send books to Florida and how do I register them

I understand this volunteer non-profit organization sends books only to Texas prisoners. It's such a wonderful benefit for prisoners, every state should have an "Inside Books Project"!
