Outdoors is always open. Nobody is going to stop you, or hold your hand.
You can make a lollipop loop by utilizing the North Trail just to the west of the shelter. Either take the North Trail at that point and come back to the shelter via the Appalachian Trail or vice versa. Makes it about 6+ miles.
