Michelle took the time to get to know me and my ailments as it was my first time seeing her (although I previously booked my partner a massage). Instead of simply settling for a good massage—which is all anyone could ask—she was determined to find the main sources of my issues so that I could take the exercises with me and start my journey of healing my aching body. I only noticed later that she went far over the time she scheduled for me which shows me how passionate and empathetic of a therapist she is. I plan on many more appointments with her because it is rare to find someone in the health field who truly cares, listens, and empathizes with you. -Laurent

I have been in pain for decades with neck issues that lead to chronic headaches. I've tried massage before with no more than temporary relief. A friend urged me to find and NKT certified massage therapist who will do so much more than just rub the pain away. I am so grateful I did! I have not felt this much progress toward permanent healing in my body ever before. Without fail, Michelle finds the root cause of my current pain every time. Don't get me wrong, her massage is phenomenal, but her NKT expertise and extensive knowledge of how the body is interconnected has transformed my body. 100% recommend Michelle for anyone with chronic pain.

Michelle helped find my low back was compressed and how it affected the rest of my core. I have had less back pain and dysfunction only after the first session!

Questions & Answers

What is Neuromuscular Massage and how does it help?

Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020
Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which gentle pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle. These areas of strain can be tender. Trigger points are the cause of muscular pain symptoms. When released, it allows the muscle to relax and feels like a reboot.

What all is included in your sessions?

Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020
Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020

Good Question! You should always consider what a service provider is including in a session when comparing with another provider, Not just price! Whether you are receiving a treatment for the Body or Face, you will receive a consultation prior to your session to discuss your concerns and goals and will include a thorough assessment to properly customize the session you receive and the plan of treatment. Following the hands on treatment, we will again consult with a short discussion of how you feel/look and the home care you may receive. If your session includes home care you will receive detailed instructions/images via text or email. And I will follow up with a text/call 1-3 days after your session to check on your progress. You have my attention from the moment you contact me and goes beyond the time you receive your service. Services are a flat rate with No Additional Gratuity. It is my top priority to meet and exceed your expectations.

Is it ok to come to my appointment if I am sick?

Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020
Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 7, 2020

Simple answer No. It's never a good idea to come in to receive a treatment when you are sick. Your body is fighting hard to quickly get you well. Massage increases circulation and could make you feel worse before you feel better. Placing your already stuffy face into the face cradle is never comfortable. And you put the therapist and following guests at risk. So please reschedule to another time when your body is well to better enjoy the experience.

Why do I feel pain some days and feel perfectly fine most other days?

Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020
Michelle Buffkin | Oct 7, 2020

Depends on how the pain was reached. Most pain is acquired over time. Repetitive use wears the muscle down causing it to strain to carry out the actions you're asking of it. When this happens, the body recruits other muscles to help you function. Muscle repair occurs when you fall into a deep sleep so when you awake you feel refreshed. But you go about your normal routine and continue to wear down the same muscles again. This is where NeuroKinetic Therapy comes in to find the source of your pain and stop it from reoccurring.

Why is my skin so oily?

Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019
Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019

Many factors are involved in this condition. Using the correct cleanser and products for your skin type, are they stripping the natural oils from your skin causing your body to over- produce oil? Are they not hydrating enough? Are you exfoliating properly? Dead skin can build up creating a barrier on the surface. Is your makeup filled with a lot of silicones, wax, alcohol, and harmful fillers? Genetics, hormonal imbalances, dietary factors, stress, lifestyle, environmental pollution, can all play a factor in how your skin behaves. At Buff'd Wellness, a thorough consultation is performed and all of these factors are discussed to determine a treatment plan to properly balance your skin. Oily, Acne, Acne scarring, Pigmentation, Dry, Fine lines, Wrinkles, loose sagging skin, sensitive/rosacea skin, skincare during pregnancy...

How often can someone receive Massage Therapy?

Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019
Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019

This really depends on many factors. What reason are you receiving Massage Therapy? If for relaxation, one could receive a full body session daily, depending upon convenience, schedule, and finances. Wouldn't that be nice?! Ideally, I like to recommend at least once a month for regular maintenance, to relieve stress, tension, and/or pain increase circulation and range of motion, help improve sleep, etc... I have clients that come every 2 weeks. For those with a condition to treat, I can set up sessions 1-3 days a week to quickly resolve the issue. Pain doesn't occur overnight. It builds up over time, and sometimes may take a little time to correct. Which is why regular healthcare is so important. Every Body is different and receives an individual customized treatment plan.

Should Massage hurt?

Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019
Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019

No. Your Massage should not hurt, bruise, or cause any additional trauma to your body. Do No Harm- should be every therapists motto. If the pressure is painful to you, it sends a signal to your brain, reflexes kick in, muscles begin to contract, bruising, and the session is no longer healing. With proper technique, understanding of the body, anatomy, functionality, the are much simpler ways to feel better. Which is what I practice here at Buff'd Wellness.

What type of massage should I choose for my pain?

Michelle Buffkin | Oct 8, 2019
Atlanta Massage & Skin Care - Buff'd Wellness | Oct 8, 2019

That's a good question. First, establishing where and why the pain is occurring is important and will determine the best course of treatment. At Buff'd Wellness, a thorough consultation is performed discussing when and how the pain started, followed with a few movement screenings to further tell what muscles are involved. Then you'll receive the best techniques to treat your pain. All you're asked is to simply choose the time you have to spend on your treatment and leave the technical stuff up to me! We'll also discuss a treatment plan for future treatments if needed or establish a regular schedule to prevent future injuries.
