Remote cardio ballet classes at The Ballet Spot have been a great way to destress and have fun while getting a workout in. They're fun, accessible, and low pressure, and I can feel my strength, flexibility, and balance all improving. I remember taking an adult beginning ballet class through a different school as a teenager and it was...boring. And not much of a workout. But classes here seem to have hit on a much better formula for ballet for adult learners - they're lively and energetic, so you'll be sure to get your heart-rate up, and by the end of an hour-long class you'll have learned a short combination, so you get to dance to beautiful music and feel moderately graceful doing it (which is really what we all want from a workout, I suspect). Highly recommend!

I have not danced in 15 years. Class with Christine was amazing! She is a wonderful and patient instructor. I will return!

What a great way to get back into some sort of movement. This year has been a challenge with many injuries and I was looking for something fun and dance related. This was a wonderful combination of all! It has been so long since I have moved in any dance way so it was super challenging, but felt wonderful! Thanks!!

Questions & Answers

Do I need special shoes for ballet class?

Appropriate footwear for our classes is regular socks, sticky socks, or ballet slippers. You'll probably be most comfortable in ballet slippers, but if you don't have them, don't worry, socks are totally fine! Need ballet slippers? Come early to borrow a pair from us! For outdoor classes, we recommend sneakers or barefoot.

Is Cardio Ballet cardio or is it ballet?

The Ballet Spot NYC | Oct 6, 2021
The Ballet Spot NYC | Oct 6, 2021

It's both! In Cardio Ballet, we use repetition of basic ballet exercises, the resistance of gravity, light impact, and optional wrist weights to elevate your heart rate through dance. The cardio will sneak up on you because you'll be so focused on the fun exercises. But we promise, by the end of class, you will be dripping in sweat and you will feel the burn!

Are your ballet classes just for dancers, or can anybody take them?

Our ballet and fitness classes are for anybody and everybody! We welcome all experience levels into all of our classes, you absolutely do not need to be a dancer or have any kind of background in dance to join us. However, if you have danced before, then that's great too - our classes are challenging for all experience levels.

How is Cardio Ballet different from Barre?

The Ballet Spot NYC | Oct 6, 2021
The Ballet Spot NYC | Oct 6, 2021

Barre classes build muscle using isometric contractions through movements inspired by ballet. By contrast, Cardio Ballet is dance fitness class, designed to get you in dancer shape through dance choreography! At The Ballet Spot, we believe a dancer's body is a body that dances, and the best way to achieve a ballet body is training like a ballet dancer... And ballet dancers take ballet class everyday! Cardio Ballet starts with a basic ballet warm up and then move to center, where the instructor will guide you through longer ballet combinations across the floor. However, we do love Barre as well! Our total Body Barre class combines traditional barre exercises with traditional ballet exercises to give you an intense full body workout.
