Nice little dog beach area just over the Bay Bridge. I was looking for a place to take our pooch, and if you follow the rules of the beach it's a great few hours here. First, there were no jellyfish. That depends on the time of year you go. Second, it's a short wooded hike but no big deal. When you enter the beach the dog area is in front and to the right. Up towards the left end is for humans. They have their own separate entry way. I did gather a small pile of trash that was laying around and took that with me when I left to dispose of. We kept our dog on a long leash, but others had theirs off leash. Clearly, during the week would be less crowded than on the weekend.

This is a great beach to spend a summer day. However, if you don’t want your beach gear trampled and urinated on by people’s dogs, stay far away from the “dog beach” portion. Wish they would make this a humans only beach and keep their rats at home.

My boyfriend and I took our puppy to the dog beach. To start, after visiting this beach I found two ticks on my body and one on my dog. You do have to walk through a pretty heavily forested area to get to the beach, but we were very cautious not to touch the foliage. On top of the psychological trauma of not knowing whether we’ve gotten all of the ticks off of our dog (he’s quite furry.) The water had a lot of debris (seaweed, trash, and crab bones (?)) so you could barely see through it. This, in conjunction with the comment about jellyfish, made me super tentative about getting in the water. Overall not worth the drive or energy.

This is one of THE BEST KEPT SECRETS EVER! I almost don't wanna post this review, because it needs to stay this way. It's a very quaint, cute, CLEAN, WELL MAINTAINED beach, tucked away for just a few to enjoy at a time. I'll definitely be going back! I cain't wait to catch the sun setting over there on tat side of paradise!

Wjal.com..However, metapeake was not on the list of beaches contaminated, but it could also not have been tested. On the east coast 837 out of 1,798 beaches tested positive for fecal contamination and proved to be not safe..Soooo, I guess use your best judgment. I personally have not taken my kids or dogs there in 2 years because of it.
There are restrooms in the clubhouse and also standalone bathrooms as well as an outdoor shower/foot wash. Check the images, there are some pictures of the facilities there.
yes
Yes, the dog beach is to the right of the main beach. Dogs are allowed to visit and swim and the water is shallow and calm.
Nope
They are everywhere! We went twice and the second time, 3 of us got stung. We heard from a friend that went the week after us, and it seems they have gotten worse.
I'd be cautious. Lots of rain up north. You can almost bet the sewage up there will overflow and be coming this way.
So yes...but... You need to go to the "dog section" at the far end. Just follow the signs; the dog part of the beach has it's own path down to it. Also; consider water quality. I'm not sure anyone or anydog should be in the Bay right now.
Yes. Book in advance
It is a state park and occasionally you will see park patrol. They will not allow bonfires on the beach, however on the fishing pier side they do have picnic tables and bbq grills. The beach is open sunrise to sunset.
To be honest, I don't know. I know in the past it has been.
There is a dog path that goes along the outer fence (right of gate) by the woods and ends at the beach. Your family can walk in the gate and go down to the beach or take the dog path.
