I recommend that people interested in working with BSW pay to have an tax professional review the tax incentives before you commit. In our first tax year we only got about 30% of our expected rebate, and in our second tax year we only got about another 30%. We had to pay off the rest of the bridge loan from our savings, which created a bit of a mess for us financially. We were assured by BSW staff that the most it would take was two years, and we didn't take the time for an accountant review because we were told that tax incentives were going to expire before we could get that done. The system itself is fine (not amazing, but fine), and the staff has tried to be helpful with this loan situation, but the fact is the finances just didn't work out as they told us they would, and it's been a problem. When you do the cost/benefit of this project for your home, I strongly encourage you to build in the cost of getting good tax advice. We were made to feel like it was safe to skip that step, and it was definitely not.

I would like to start out by saying, that my wife and I have gone through 4 different partial to full-gut renovations; and our experience with BSW is far and away the most satisfying and I feel the most grateful for. The early stages were not any sort of slick salesmanship; they are selling solar power. We wanted to make the transition, but needed help with just about everything from size/pricing/permitting/inspections/etc. Once I saw the detailed work that they were offering as options for the different panels (given our flat brownstone rooftop) and the subsequent financing possibilities, I knew they were working for more than just the business side of it. I get it, we are capitalists - but I never felt like there were any parts of the process that they did not have our best interests in their decisions. We believe their work ethic was above board as they always asked questions - and LISTENED! A rare combiniation in today's marketplace. I cannot recommend BSW any higher as they helped us throughout the entire process of making an intial decision to the actual installation to the scheduling and completion of the inspections with DOB and ConEd. It was a pleasure. Plus their staff was a pure joy to get to know and work with!

My coop building worked with Brooklyn Solar and had an excellent experience with them. They set realistic goals for us, worked carefully to design the system, and got us up and running in a timely manner. It's a joy to log into our account and see the panels collecting sun energy!

Brooklyn SolarWorks is a special company and is definitely the best company in NYC for solar panels. After purchasing our brownstone in Bed Stuy in April 2021, our electric bill was beyond expensive, particularly during the summer (one of our bills was over $800!). Once our solar canopy was installed in November 2021, our electric bill has never been more than the basic service charge plus tax (ranges from $18-21)! More importantly, the amount of kilowatt hours generated from our solar panels has far exceeded our usage and thus we continue to accumulate more and more energy credits, which is key! Our bill will more than likely continue to be only the basic service charge, as our high energy credit accumulation will be able to offset our higher usage during the summer months. The NY state tax credits plus property tax abatement (which are super unique to New York City and will likely be time limited) coupled with the federal tax credit will offset a huge proportion of the cost of your solar system. We can attest to this as we have already recouped a ton of the cost of our solar canopy when we received our federal and state income tax returns for 2021. The level of attentiveness, knowledge, and responsiveness of all of the staff at Brooklyn SolarWorks beginning with the initial consultation and even post-installation is top notch, and made the process seamless and quite pleasant from our end. The tax credits and property tax abatement aspect was a little intimidating for me personally, but Brooklyn SolarWorks did such a phenomenal job explaining and walking you through the process (and it ended up being a lot easier than anticipated when it came time to file our taxes. For us, the solar canopy design was why we knew we wanted to work with Brooklyn SolarWorks. The solar canopy is innovative and really is a no brainer if you live in a brownstone with a flat roof. Your rooftop is valuable real estate. We plan to build a finished rooftop and a solar canopy preserves your rooftop space. We are thrilled that we made going solar our priority project after purchasing our home, and I cannot imagine working with any other company. Yes, they really are that good. Giving the rising costs of energy, and the fact that the NY state tax credit and NYC property tax abatement will more than likely continue to be reduced (and have the potential to be phased out), I would strongly recommend going solar ASAP and Brooklyn SolarWorks is hands down the company you should choose.
