I visited the Cemetery on Sunday, May 26, 2019, to place flowers on my parents' marker in honor of Memorial Day weekend. With the holiday approaching, the flags were in place at all of the grave sites. I stopped at the vase container location to find it empty. To say that I was disappointed and sadden is putting it mildly. How could there not be an abundance of vases on the veterans' holiday weekend? As I drove throughout the Cemetery, I saw very few vases at individual grave sites. This is tragic and does not bode well for the Cemetery. I visit the Cemetery approximately 7 times per year and look forward to arranging the flowers and seeing others left throughout the various sections. (Today I did not leave the flowers due to the heat of the day.) The Cemetery is beautiful and very well maintained, however, the lack of adequate vases for family and friends to pay tribute to our veterans must be reversed. .

Access into and out of the cemetary is good. GFVC sits on a lightly traveled road so traffic is usually not a problem. The burials are thoughtfully scheduled, there is typically no back-up inside the gates. The staff is organized and professional. Everyone is in place for the ceremony and the plot is dug already with the crew ready to go. If a person is getting military honors, the guard is there waiting. The experience is as smooth as it can be. The grounds are kept in great condition. If you need help, the staff is willing and more than able to assist.

Yes if they a veteran they will find a spot with a plot for your loved one.
Are they open this Sunday
Garrsion is closed on weekends. There is a kiosk in the lobby. Enter the name of the deceased. And a map to the burial plot and location can be printed.
From November 15th to Mar 15th, artificial. From Mar 15th to November 15th real flowers are allowed. No glass vases, flags, or crosses
There were families having picnics last memorial day
Most of the time, a bugler is still present for the service. Occasionally a bugler may not be present if there is a time conflict or he may not be on duty that particular day.
No. That is a great question though. You just happened to visit The Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetary during the "Wreaths Across America" event. Every year, volunteers lay wreaths at the tombs of veterans to remember and honor them. The organization originated in Maine and is working to cover as many national cemeteries as they can. This year the event at GFVC will take place on December 18th. You just hsppened to visit the cemetery last year at just the right time.
Yes
Google shows they are open from 8am to 4:45pm everyday including weekends
Our service was outside. But if you have more then 10 people it will be outside of the weather is good.
The office is closed now due to all this mess. Typically you can go in the kiosk area and look up your loved one etc. And it will print you out a map. I'm not sure but you may be able to do it on line because the cemetery itself is open just not the office and kiosks.
My best answer is for you to get with the public liaison, at the entrance to the cemetery. They are very understanding and will try to answer your questions as best they can. I'm sorry for your loss and thank you for they're faithful service to this country.
You can receive assistance from the office personnel. 9-3 pm would be the best times. They will provide a map to help locate your loved one.
During fall and winter
Yes
After you enter the front entrance, go to the main office. Inside the double doors is a computerized grave site locator. Input the deceased name and it will provide you with the location. Face the section so the granite pillar is on your left. Now, to find location... the first number is your section. It is the number on the granite pillars protruding from the ground (A 21). Your next number is your number of headstones. So, if it is 14, you count, to your right, 14 headstones. The last number your walk down that number, counting the headstones.
Gravesite visitation at Garrison Forest Cemetary is between 8:00 am and 4:45 pm daily.
If its extra deep, its 2
