Carpets should smell fresh after cleaning ( 2 exceptions) . It sounds like you used another company that Perhaps Did not do a thorough job. One of the reasons why carpets can smell more is there is excessive urine inside the carpet and underneath the carpet in the pad. Unfortunately Carpet Cleaning’s mostly cannot reach that area so if they get wet, the urine will be activated and smell stronger until it dries… The second way Carpets if cleaned incorrectly can smell is there taking too long to dry.
